Some days are better then others

We retired for bed about 3am this morning listening to a bit of Coast. I certainly was ready for sleep but when 5am rolled around, I was still wide awake. By 7am, 8am, 10am, I was still just lying in bed. I might have got an hour or so of sleep but that’s about it. Too much sleep on the weekend is what did it. I think this evening after Raw, I’ll have no trouble falling to sleep.

I’m on my desktop typing this right now, as for some reason not entirely clear to me at the moment why I’m able to access Google Earth on my desktop but not on my laptop. I had it running on my laptop before but I can’t access Google earth/Google maps street view. I used a work around and was able to get at least Google maps/street view up and running. A Google earth globe icon is in my uninstall programs directory using Windows 7 but I can’t find A Google earth globe icon anywhere else in my laptop. I think running a laptop from a router could have something to do with it.

This week it’s back to work and the last week of the year and Anne is encouraging me to just stick 5-9 this week. It‘s next week I have to buckle down to get my website dues paid up. I‘ve got a bit of wiggle room for my Lodge dues but they are due now. I‘m seldom ever late with them.

I was going to chuck Science Fiction “The years best- 2006” and begin reading Elizabeth Bear’s “Dust.” I decided to make “Dust” my reading priority for January and the anthology as a filler. Maybe read 1-2 pages of that/day. That’s in between all the other stuff I want to do.

Its been busy here over the past few months

but then if you have been following me at my website you would have known this.

I'm still in the learning curve with Windows 7 and I've barely touched the surface of this amazing OS. Its starting to grow on me.

I'm about at the half way point reading Ben Bova's "The green trap." Its not half bad really. I hope to have it read Christmas weekend.

Avatar (the movie) looks really good and I hope to get a chance to see this film before the holidays are over.

Stephen King's "Under the dome" looks really good as well and after I read the Karen Travis "Wess'Har" series, I plan on delving into this book.

Also, in the new year I hope to get signed onto Xbox Live as I want to get playing Raw vs Smackdown 2010 and get another controller for Anne.

Sorry I've been absent around here but I'll be blogging more frequently from my website.

Monday wan't bad

Yesterday on the job was slow because we had limited numbers on WCS. Odd that there were very few empties around. Then again we had a low turnout as well for the afternoon shift. During the 2nd half we did some shuffling and some of us did WCS others like me did AES and I did a lot better on AES pulling in about $620 for the whole shift and just 1 credit card sale for $20.

I was glad to get out of there and on the train where I read a couple of pages of “Rainbows end” on the way home. If all goes well I should have this book read by Sunday night. If not earlier. I spent so far 25 days reading this. The best book I’ve read so far this year has been the first book in January, Eric Brown’s “Helix.” Speaking about books, I still haven’t received my contest wining book give away from Pat’s fantasy hot list. I’m sure it’s on it’s way.

They had their “Slammies” on Monday night Raw, so it was a 3 hour “award” show. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate the show about a 7.5. Nothing special.

Anne’s watching “Star Trek academy” on the DVD we rented from last night. I’d like to see it again but it has to be in by this afternoon. I saw 2 first run movies this year: “GI Joe” and “Star Trek academy.” Both were fun movies.

Over there at Goodreads in my Sci-fi/fantasy book club the January book to read poll, has a nice list of the books to vote for the month of January. The theme for January is SFF books by a woman author. I polled Karen Travis’s “City of pearl” as I own the whole series but haven’t read them yet. So far Margrett Atwood’s (uggh) “Oryx and Crake” are in the lead with 10 votes. My sellection has only 5 votes.

I just checkd this on the Coast site and apparently there’s been another spiral light that’s been spotted in Norway. What the heck is really going on over there? Ok the first spiral being a Russian rocket out of control I can understand but 2? This is getting silly now.

According to SF Signal on Interzone, the magazine has some stories about Sky pirates, witches and other good stuff. I’ve been trying to locate a store that sells Interzone locally so I can pick up a copy once in a while. I mean you can’t go wrong with a story about sky Pirates, right?

And finally the Oiler‘s play host to the LA Kings coming to town tonight. I‘ve got a $5 bet on the Oiler‘s losing the game with one of the guys from work. Sadly, I think the Oiler’s luck has run out on that last 5 game winning streak. I believe that last 5 game road trip has run its course with the Copper and Blue. Anyway that‘s all from me for today.

For some reason I can'tpast in Blogger

Anne left me with the money for Pledges as I was just about ready to leave, when the man from “Loving pets” came by. We got a nice pewter urn for Pledges. When I get the mouse replacement from the one Anne accidentally broke off the other day from the desktop computer I’ll post a photo. Wal-Mart has some nice inexpensive USB mice for about $15 so I can access the older computer and transfer some files over.

I had a decent night on the job as about 10 of us went in the back to do Wheelchair sports. I had a slow start because of the monitor but once I got up and running it got better. I got a whack of empties as well pulling in a $710 total and 5 cards worth $155 but again no bonus money but we had fun. Hardly seemed like work at all and before we knew it there was 20 minutes left in the shift and home time. No bonus money for me. I was $100 short of just under l/h even though I had more then 20% on card. The thing that bothered me about the evening was trying to get started. The rest of the crew were like 20 minutes ahead and 3-5 sales ahead of me.

We’re going to have our office Christmas part this Saturday at a local pub not far away. I didn’t like the food the last time we held it there. I might just show up for a bit have a bite to eat and a beer and head home. The thing is we’re also working until 4:30pm so by the time I get home it’s 5pm and by the time I have a show and dress up it’s going to be 6pm by the time I even head out the door. Then I’ve got to find the place, so I doubt I’ll be able to make it.

I went and downloaded Google Earth 5 onto this laptop but without a regular mouse it’s hard to utilize the program. Without a regular mouse using the program is awkward so I might just buy another USB and forget about this touchpad. Even “street-view” is hard to use without a regular mouse.

Tonight on Coast George is going to talk with guest: Dr. Charles Tramont on past life regression and the US Federal reserve. By now most of you reading this have seen or heard about the spiral in the night sky in Norway. It seems this was a malfunctioning Russian ICBM, I hope it wasn’t armed. Tomorrow night on Coast they‘re going to talk about urology.

Well, the Oiler‘s in Tampa Bay have won 3-2. That makes it their 4th straight win and on the road no less. The copper and blue are 2 games away from 7th and 8th place. Friday they Oiler’s are in St. Louis on the game of their 5th game road trip. Thanks to the curling try outs here at Rexall. The Oil’s first game at Rexall will be next Tuesday hosting LA and they’ll lose that one.

It's benn one of those "oh boy" kind of a days.

This morning Anne arranges for Pledges body to be picked up for cremation. it's going to be done on Monday. They're going to put him in a Urn with his name on it and we're going to get this photo of him and make a kind of a shrine to his honor.

The idea was Anne was to meet me after work at Audrey's, I'd buy my book then we'd head over to the Saw Mill. It's happy hour and they have great cheese burgers and I'll have a beer to go along with that. So, I meet her coming off the train after I've been to my bank, at Clairview station. On the bus home she tells me plans have been changed because I'll be so tired I wont be into it and I'll pass out watching my hockey game when I come home so we're going Sunday instead. Now I'll miss my Grey Cup game. That doesn't matter too much because Edmonton isn't in it. I mean I'd watch it if I was at home and all but this week is our 9th anniversary next Sunday. We should really save it until then but we have rent to worry about. So we'll celebrate it this Sunday.

I had a great evening on the job pulling in 5 cards and a total of $215 for a combined total of $475. For that I get a $20 bonus on my paycheck next week.

Also I discovered that the payroll is done Thursday and sent down to head off ice for Friday. So I have all this week to get the form and have bm sign for it to get my vacation pay on my paycheck. I'm losing money.

I've been undergoing some severe back pain over the last

few days but even though I'm a little stiff right now in the back, I'm feeling better.

Last night I had a decent time on the job although it was tough going. I got 4 cards for a total of $90 and $425 total. So it wasn't a bad night, we had a bit of the LA/Oiler game on TV there and in between calls I was able to watch bits and pieces of the game. I got some empties but some people were complaining I took their empties without asking. Better me then the cleaning staff. I'm trying to lobby for the cleaning staff not to come up here while we're working but wait until 9pm. I mean if we're not allowed on the floor until 4:30pm and we work the next shift, they shouldn't come up with vacuum cleaners rags and emptying trash buckets and making noise while we're working.

Sixteen and Twenty-four came in for me during last nights $12M 6/49 draw. onemore number would have got me $5! Nobody won the jackpot.

As for the Oiler's they lost 3-1 and had a goal disallowed that would have tied the game. The Oiler's are just getting a lot of dumb luck against them. And it gets worse, they play SJ Friday night and then go down to Vancouver for Saturday.

I'm just getting into "Rainbows End." The writing is ok but the characters are not catching my interest. But at least the plot isn't all over the place like "The Family tree was."

Speaking about books I got a couple of calls from Audrey's the other day and apparently some of my new book orders are in. I'm trying to get enough points on my membership to cover the cost of "The New Space Opera 2" to pay for it. I'm about half way there. I usually get a $1 off of each book, so I got about another 9 books yet left before I can get it for "free."

Weekends books and Oiler games

I went to bed immediately after ECW and listened to a bit of Coast. Art Bell wastakining over for George. I listned for about 5 minutes having got a drift of the topic: Intention. I slept until about 3am and got up to pee and Anne not able to see me in the dark and on the toilet collided with me. I wasn’t able to get back to sleep after that so I got up about half an hour ago and in back pain and went back to sleep but couldn’t and rested my back. I got up about 6:35am feeling a little better but not so taking a look outside to a blanket of snow out there.

We had Boots in overnight with my office window openand it looks like he jumped off the balcony or is under the lawn reclainer.

Anne’s working from 4:30-10pm and I’m in from 10-4:30pm. That will get me 25.5 hours in. Most hours I’ve had in a week since over 2 years ago.

I’m not one for abandoning books but what made me feel bad about abandoning “The Family tree” by Sheri S. Tepper, was I actually liked one of the characters in the book. The other book I casted adrift into the couldn’t read pool was Julie E. Czerneda’s, “In the company of others.” Hopefully I won’t get any more books like that this year.

Last night after work I went over to Audrey’s. The pill I just took for my back was kicking in.
When I went through the doors I noticed they had an author signing. I felt my blood sugar level dropping and asked the clerk there if they had anything left over but there was nothing soft. I’d get a donut from Tim’s across the street on my way home. I didn’t want to get “The New Space Opera 2” just yet as even though I had enough to cover for it, I didn’t want to break the bank and I would have and nothing in case I needed breakfast Saturday morning. Instead I picked up Brian Ruckley’s Winterbirth. Book 1 in the trilogy as book 2 is already on Audrey’s shelf. I took that to the counter and after paying for it I asked Trevor to order me the first 3 books in LE Modessit Jr.s “Recluse” series. I was almost going to pick up book one of John Ringo’s “Looking Glass” but I’m still working on his Posleen war series.

After Audrey’s I went to Tim’s and got my donut and coffee and relaxed in no particular hurry to get home. But I waited for the LRT with my empties and got home with no Anne there. So I did my admin stuff. So far this week alone I banked $850 in cards. Wow. I bank for the company 4 times more then what they pay me and probably at least 8 times more that’s not banked on cards, in total. And so far this week, I’ve got 18 cards in and it’s not even Saturday.

The big game on tap tonight is Chicago/Edmonton. I’m looking forward to this. The Oiler’s have played 22 games so far and enjoy a 9-10-3 record. Next year we get Jason Erbele in the line up and that Sweedish defence player. Chicago has just come off that win with Calgary the other night. Also, Sunday is the CFL playoff finale: Calgary/Rider’s. Should be a good one.

The only Lodge thing I‘ve got to do is the FC WT for Dec. 3rd. It’s a short piece I’ve done before. As for today, I’m glad I got my book last night what with all this snow out there and my bad back might make things very icey out there. I might stay for the extra 2 hours after all depends on how I feel. If my back is holding up ok, then I will.

I’ll snag a photo of the first snow fall out there when I go to work late and post it in this entry.

Yesterday afternoon Anne was having a tough go of it and of course I’m on the receiving end of things. What with dealing with my cold and sciatic nerve back pain and her flipping out on me I wasn’t in that good of shape as she headed out to get me some cough drops over there at the Dollarama. I met her at the door heading out and she handed me the cough drops. By then my back pain had subsided and I could move around a lot easier.

So as I headed out the door to wait for my bus the weather was a mild +16! Wow. Very unusual for this time of year. Today we’re to get +14. Temps should taper off to about +1 or +2 over the weekend. Still for this time of year? I love it. We could have it one of the warmest Novembers in recent memory. It’s all part of global warming. Now, I don’t believe in the anthropogenic global warming. Or AGW but that’s another issue. Still if we can get by with +1 or +2 in that 5* range, would be excellent. It means winter is reduced from 5 months to 4. And it warms up in March.
I had a slow start to the shift. I began to wonder why we were doing CFK. But it was a TD run. I had a slow start I think just under about $285 by break and 2 cards. We had the Oiler’s/Columbus game on. Someone took my lucky dialer #13 but I took #24 instead doing small taps. NS and Ontario we killing us. I ended up with a nice bag full of empties and 4 cards for a total of $520 and $90 on cards when it was all said and done. At 8:30pm I took a pill for my back pain and by 9pm it felt better and I was able to walk to Corona station with no problems. The Oiler’s ended up taking the game to OT and lost in the shootout for 1 point. Hemsky got his 2nd and Visnovsky for his 3rd. The best they could do for bonus money last night was $5 for a $100 credit card sale. On a TD run? Yeah right.

I got in about 9:50pm and Anne felt bad she blew up at me earlier. She got me some Tylenol for back pain and made me some nice fish and chips for supper. We settled in to watch a pretty good show of Monday night Raw from Madison Square Gardens. It’s always a good Raw from MSG. On a scale from 1-10 I’d rate it an 8. Lots of fun.

Thanks to the folks at SF Signal for renewing my interest in Escape pod. I listened to a 2005 SF story called “The trouble with death traps.” The whole story was about 30 minutes. I used to listen to about 1 of these/week. I think I’ll continue now that there are other pod cast stories out there. There’s a sequel to this story and I’m going to try and get to this later this week. This story was by Marjorie James. Read by Stephen Eley. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate it an 8.……"overnight".....…..Anne’s been having the dehumidifier on over the past couple of days. Helps me sleep as the moisture in the room at night aggravates this cold or whatever it is that’s been causing me some grief since the day after we had to put Pledges down. I still miss the little guy. Keith Graham is having difficulties with his cat Max now in the Vet. But I’ve been having this cold since the day after Pledges died. I’m more or less ok on the job, it’s just lingering around the house is when it kicks in.

We were in bed by 4am but I couldn’t sleep so I got up to watch a bit of TV, this was at 6am. This was when I had another attack of back pain. I took my second Tylenol. TNC had a 1933 Dick Powel movie on. I watched a bit of it until my back felt better. I went back to bed and tried to sleep. I felt a little better and I think I got 5 hours. Anne had the dehumidifier off and then I began episodes of hacking and coughing. I got up and that’s when my back pain started up on me. I hobbled out to the kitchen to fix a coffee and fired up the computer. This is where I am now.

I wanted to go in for today to put some extra hours in and all Anne needs to do is to make my lunch the night before and have an entre out for me so I can take my insulin and pack my things out to be out of here by noon. That’s the idea. I want to go in for Wed/Fri.

Last night when I went to bed I listened to a bit of Coast with George’s guest Steve Qual. He talked about the global implications of the pneumonic plague in Ukraine and possibly that the H1N1 is a bio weapon. Who would gain from something like this? Lets round up the usual suspects. The most obvious would be Al Qaeda but what about The World Health Organization themselves? Why not invent H1N1 from a lab in say for instance the Ukraine and put together a vaccine, heighten the scare that this flue strain is going to kill millions so everyone will want to take the flue shot and they make billions. I don’t know if WHO is behind this but if anyone is behind this and it is a bio weapon, I’d be pointing fingers at Al Qaeda. But this was what they were (among other things) talking aobut last night. It was a good show.

So for tonight it’s into work for my usual 5-9. Most likely doing CFK again since we’ve done the taps for Magic. same old same old but I'm grateful I still have a job.

I had a good day Saturday after all. I can't complain

Surprisingly my back pain eased off for my commute into work this morning. This was the coldest Saturday morning so far since getting back from my Sunday shift which was canceled about Labor Day. It wasn’t a winter jacket type of day or anything. At Corona the escalator wasn’t working again. I took the elevator up with one of the “20” guys and I went into Tim’s and got some breakfast, I was running late and into the office. The security guard was actually pleasant to me this morning. My breakfast was good and I was at my regular dialer. Warren sat across from me. Brian sat beside me (one of the new guys.) I had a good start to the shift and got a few cards. I also got a hold of some rude people. Comes with the job. Our dialer's were shut off for awhile there. The shift was fun with Warren running co pilot with me. We watched University football on Shaw.

After work I got the empties and had a talk with the guard. He’s a really nice guard and we have a lot in common. I had a great time chatting with the guard after work for about 40 minutes but wouldn’t you know it, this could be his last night on site because he wants his old site back.

I headed over to Audrey’s feeling pretty good and I got Book #3 of John Ringo’s “When the devil dances” and in keeping with my topic about audio books I had a chat with the guys at Audry’s about them. Audrey’s audio books start at $15, which is pretty pricey. At “Audible.com” (Amazon) his audio books are priced right at $7.49.

Now I wouldn’t want a steady diet of audio books but I can see their value. Especially when helping me to improve my reading speed. But I could possibly buy 2 audio books/month. Maybe. The problem with audio books is the price and selection. Of course audio books are at the library but chances are I’m not going to find “The Family tree” there. Yes they are available from Torrent sites but chances are there’s probably about 3 seeds for these things.

I had an excellent night on the job.

this evening. I checked in and got the empties and my dialer. We did Magic and wow what a night. I ended up with $390 on 6 cards with a $1,170 total for a $20 bonus and 10 % on cards. That's my race track money next week and "The New Space Opera 2" book. I sat with 3 others with us and headed home. I had a great night.

I get a day off to nurse my aches and pains

I love mid week stat days. Too bad they are far and few between. My wife has to work for 3 hours but she should be getting paid time and a half.

Lately my left shoulder arm has been bugging me to the point that it gets hard to put my arm inside my coat. And of course my sciatic nerve is still causing me some grief and if that wasn’t enough I’ve got this hoarse throat that lost me a few sales last night I‘m sure. And of course the usual aches and pains in the neck and back. Sigh.
Alright enough about that. Today is Remembrance Day. I love it when this holiday falls during the middle of the week. I love Remembrance and Family Day’s as my 2 official stat holidays. And if course anytime I get 3 days off is good as well like Labor Day and Christmas. But Remembrance Day is my favorite. But later this afternoon, I get to watch the Oiler/Sabres game on a stat paid holiday. Love it.

Earlier before bed this morning Anne gave me an IBO Prophen pill for my back pain. Seems to have helped out a bit and before I shut the computer off I checked my Twitter page as I noticed Twitter updated my Twitter counter. I have 27 Followers. Right on. So on my Twitter page I discovered this cool utility they just introduced called “Twitter stats.” I checked that using my user name and I’m getting about 2.5 Tweets/day. I think these Tweets are coming from my Blogger Blog because I can “Twit This” as just posted. My Geeklog Website hasn’t got a plugin for this yet but according to my stat counter I’m getting about 36 page views/day to this Blog.

Its still Sunday night here

Other then that not much going on. I read a bit more from "The Family Tree" Lodge work, and Internet stuff.

This morning I went to bed about 3:30am and had a good 10 hours of sleep without the aid of a sleeping pill. Anne made a great brunch and I watched The Oiler's in Denver win to a 5-3 victory destroying the Ave's bid for a 7-0 win record. It was nice to see the Oiler's win for a change.

Also I've been toying around with Google Earth street view maps. Especially touring my old neighborhood in Coquitlam BC. For years and years I always thought the corner store was called Snoopy's but its actually called Soupy's. It's still there today. I used to get my Marvel comic books off the rack there in 1968.

Other then that I'm having a good weekend. Anne's sister is coming out tomorrow and I'll be at work. I'm working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons this week. I want the Blackberry Storm 2 as it's coming out Monday but I'm not looking at getting that until maybe by the end of the year or January next year.

On Coast this evening the topic is DARPA. Should be a good one. I love shows like this and its odd that Ian does topics like this as he's more into soft topics.

We're more or less over Pleges

as it's been 15 days now since we've been without him. Anne's still coping with the loss of her father as of last Friday. October was a horrible month.

So here we are in November with nice weather. Yesterday we got up to a high of +17. Very unusual for this time of year.

Last night at the Lodge was step up night and one of the guys gave me a hand me down case for my apron and not to worry about the book because they had extras. I got to do the Junior Steward role. Or chair. I was kept busy as we had the DDGM and his entourage and the Stewards had duty there and and then balloting duty as well. It was also our Remembrance Day ceremony and we held a moment of silence for fallen members that died either from cancer etc. So this was unusual duty for the Stewards. Also after lodge was closed I couldn't find my cell phone. George said it was found in his truck. Close call.

I had a great night last night. And I'm in a new chair. Next year I'm the Senior Steward. Good stuff.

Anne agrees with me that going in for Friday afternoon wont solve anything when I can make up the hours Saturday. I lose an hour and a half. Big deal. Now it's on to read "The Family tree."

Anyway gang, that's about all for now

Goodreads is currently down which is why they haven't updated my blooger currently reading yet

down right now which is why they haven't upgraded my Blogger currently reading etc.

The past week I've been struggling with this cold which is why I haven't been in here that much. I usually try and get in here at least a couple of times/week anyway.

Also, this morning I finished reading "The Space Wolf" Omnibus. There's a review over there on my website. Right now I'm reading Sheri S. Tepper's "The family tree."

Not a heck of a lot going on for

today. I still have Pledges on my mind. I still have a broken heart but it's mending faster then I expected.. At least I'm reading a lot out of "The Space Wolf." I'm really enjoying this book and I think I should be finished with it by the weekend. It's really good. There is a second Omnibus coming out or is out this year. I began reading this book while we still had Pledges alive here. I'll return to Rangar and his antics as a Space Wolf next year.

But I've got my mind on "The New Space Opera 2" anthology. That should be on it's way or even at Audrey's books right now waiting for me in the Special Order section to pick up, hopefully on the weekend.

This morning I woke up with a headache. Not that I even got much sleep. Around 7am I decided to do some more reading and then at 8am I slept on the couch "watching" the weather channel. I went back to bed about 10am and slept until about 12:40pm. I got a couple of hours so I can't complain and its my usual short shift today. My voice feels stronger and I'll be alright as long as I stay away from that loud mouth kid that sat beside me last night.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

We had to take Pledges in yesterday morning to be put down. Toughest day of my life

This time yesterday Anne and I were having a Tim’s breakfast at Corona Station. It was her idea to take the South Campus train to the end of the line as our Clairview home train was pulling in. We would have been home a half hour earlier.

I’m almost over Pledges now. Anne kept me home so I could spend time with Pledges which is why I was never able to work extra shifts. Now that’s changed. Beginning this week, I’m Monday 5-9, Tuesday 1-9, Wednesday 1-9, Thursday 5-9, Friday 5-8:30 and Saturday, 10-4:30pm. That’ll get me 32.5 hours. Beginning this week. There are a few things I want:

Firstly, to get Boots looked after so he can become a member of the family. No one can replace Pledges. I’ve seen lots of family cats but nobody as affectionate as he was. He really loved me and I love him. Always will and each day I’ll think of him but it’s also time to move forward. Second: I want that Blackberry Storm 2. Also I want to pick up a re loaded bank of Montreal Visa gift card. I’ve got a special project I’m looking at starting. I also want a laptop so I can sit out there with my wife in the living room instead of being cooped up in here, which she doesn’t like. Plus, I’m seriously thinking about getting an American Husky cross puppy as a service dog for my diabetes. These are cute animal, very playful and are capable of being housebroken for apartments. They use cat litter boxes. Also, this one might not cost me anything. I can get her from one of the guys at work. I don’t know how Anne will feel about this. She’s considering adapting Boots that’d be tolerable but a puppy? This wont be until the new year if at all.
Anne gave me my allowance for the weekend. My usual $20. Of this I owe $4 from last nights miserable loss against Calgary 30-7 to Warren. If he shows today, I’ll give him that. Then I thought wait now, I haven’t bought a book at Audrey’s since about October 10th. But I already bought 7 books. The last of the 2 Jedi Order books, the 3 Brent Weeks books and the 2 Dave Duncan novels. I think I’m good for this month. I got a small bag of chips for this evenings Oiler’s/Flames game for later tonight.

Nobody won on the Max last night so it goes up to $40M. A winner was selected for the $323,062.00 prize. That’s 6 numbers including the bonus number. I got 2 numbers on 3 lines. I’m getting ready for the $50M. I might get a 6/49 $13M ticket at the Redi mart on the way home and a Max ticket. That’ll be $7 on tickets.

I‘m working until 2pm for today since I’m working off of yesterdays loss. Anne worked last night for 3 hours. She went out to the South Side for a Royal Pizza for us. I don’t like their Pizza’s. not enough crust. But lately I’ve been craving for a Wendy’s double bacon cheese burger combo and I might just walk over and treat myself before the game. Have a nap if I need one and when Anne leaves for work, head on over. This way she doesn’t need to make me anything for tonight.
Last night Art Bell was filling in for George Noory on the Lunar Hoax conspiracy. There‘s a lot of compelling evidence against the Apollo 11 moon landing by Neil Armstrong. One that sinks it for me is the Van Allen radiation belt. The Lunar module was coated with 3 inches of aluminum and apparently that was enough to prevent the occupants from being exposed?
Then there‘s the pristine condition of the film. There’s lots of other evidence as well out there. It was a pretty good show.

Anne was hinting at Bragging rights. It’s a new PPV WWE concept but we can’t really afford it. Besides, when I get home from work this afternoon I want to catch what’s left of the BC Lions/Riders game on at 3:30pm today and tonight there’s the Oiler’s/Calgary. Sunday night I’m watching the Oiler’s in Vancouver. Lots of sports this weekend.

The other day our WM emailed me asking about doing the EA charge. I’d like to but there’s not enough notice and what with Pledges going yesterday etc it’s been a busy month. First we had Pat and Berry here on the 7th. Then I had that memory work for the FC exam and now Pledges being put down plus the hour changes on the job.

Robert J. Sawyer is one of my favorite Canadian SF writer. I’ve met him on several occasions and had 2 of his novels signed. Last April 23rd there’s a photo of him and I at Audrey’s. RJS with ABC TV has recently released “FlashForward” based upon a popular novel of his. I’ve been trying to find out what channel and time this show is on but so far I haven’t been able to find it in the TV listings. Most likely it’s in the evening while I’m at work. I’m going to look for it this week and make sure I get a chance to see it. I think it’s in it’s 4th episode right now.

Also sometime this weekend I want to get back into reading “The Space Wolf.” I’ve spent way too much time on this book. I began it August 31st. To be fare it’s only been 8 weeks, so that’s not too bad. I’ve got possibly another week left as I’m aiming to finish at the end of this month. Then I can go on to read Sherri S. Tepper’s “The family tree.”

Also, I’ve been wanting to pick up on some of Rich Horton’s “Years Best” anthology’s. He has Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror genre’s. Also this month I’m going to pay a visit to the 82nd Ave Wee Book Inn. Apparently according to one of the guys at work WBI has a lot of the old Edgar Rice Burroughs’s and John Norman novels as well as a lot of Ace doubles. I think he’s reading “I am a barbarian.” He said he paid $2.50 for it. Sounds like I’ll be heading over there one of these Friday nights soon. Today’s been a long entry. I had lots of stuff to cover.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

It's been a heck of a week.

Lots of drama at work and elsewhere.

I'm still reading "The Space Wolf." I like it so far with about 160 pages left to go.

We're on a death watch for Pledges. Anne agreed with me that as soon as we see Pledges staggering, then we're taking him in to have put down. I hope it will be Monday if at all.

Other then that, the job continues to go well. I couldn't believe the price of oil for the end of October: $80 and some change. The economy is getting better.

Also as of last night I might have sprained my left shoulder. Anne put some ointment on my shoulder and it was stiff as I tried to dress myself. What an adventure that was. I tried exercising the shoulder while at work and I think it helped a bit. I'm going to proof this and publish and go to bed.

Anyway gang that's about all for now.

Yesterday, what a great way to start off the week

Even though it’s +5 out there now it’s still relatively nice. You can get away comfortably enough with wearing just a sweater. We could stay like this until the end of the month. Then around November right after Halloween we’re usually about -1 temperature wise. Usually we don’t get the cold weather around these parts until about mid November.

I’m enjoying my first coffee feeling pretty good. Boots just took a dump and stank up the "office" here. Peeu.

I had a great night last night. I locked the place up and boarded the bus and caught my train to Corona station, walked up Jasper and over the cross walk then turned right heading to the Pharmacy. I got my lotto Max ticket for $30M for Friday’s draw and a diet Pepsi and got my old dialer #13 facing the overhead monitor for our 7pm Vancouver at Oilers. First places credit cards $25 bonus. Second place cards, $10 up for grabs. I had a steady start, a couple of cards. The guy beside me was coming in really loud. Not his fault, he’s a nice guy. I got a nice selection of empties and I was at $380 by break. In the middle of the pack somewhere. More empties and the hockey game tied at 1. I got a couple of $100 sales, bumps and was in second place for the last bonus. Jerry’s girlfriend and Jerry brought in 2 bags of cans for me as she brought in her little Poodle cross cute little thing. Was really friendly towards me. Jerry’s a good guy. The Oiler game was tied in the 3rd and even though I didn’t get any bonus money I had one of the top totals. We had 10 tap shooters doing Cops. I was just ripping it up with bumps and cards all night. I ended up with $910 and $295 for 5 cards. I was feeling good about my night and when I got outside it was raining pretty heavily heading towards my train.

I found a seat on the train with my empties and headed home. Even with the hoards of Oiler fans on the platform at Rexall didn’t hinder me from giving up my seat. Well, I had 3 bags of empties with me in their way.

When I got home to take off my shoes and put the empties away I checked on the game moments before Monday night Raw with Snoop Dogg. I like Snoop Dogg. The Oiler’s beat Vancouver 2-1. Khabibulin was putting on a goal tending clinic and he was the main reason why the Oiler’s won the game. Yesterday was a great day. Anne made us each a cheeseburger and fries for supper and the rest of Raw.

We went to bed about 3:30am listening to Coast. It wasn’t a bad show. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate it a 6. For most of the early hours of the morning and before bed, read more from “The Space Wolf.”

Anne just now went to go sell the bottles. She’s off today but tomorrow I’m putting in an afternoon and same with Thursday since Jerry said with our new hours we part time evenings can work afternoons. Same as before. Good stuff.

Another sleepless Friday

After doing my banking last night I got home about 9:30pm and I wanted to find out how well the Oiler’s were doing with the Wild in town. I caught the finale minute as the Oiler’s won 5-2. Wow. Penner and Brule each got goals. Wow. At the rate Penner is going he’s going to become a 30 goal scorer he’s already got 5 so far and Brule at least 3. Anne came home immediately after and gave me shit because I took out $200. That was supposed to go towards the cable bill. So now I’ve got to go back to the bank on my way in and re deposit that so she can pay our cable/internet bill this afternoon. I screwed up. I’ll get off at Central and quickly run up and deposit the cash and then head down to Tim’s and get a bite to eat.

I went to bed about 12:45am and then listened to a bit of Coast. I got maybe an hour sleep but couldn’t sleep after that. I went back to sleep about 5am and the alarm woke me for 6am. I got 2 hours or so of sleep. I don’t feel too bad but Anne doesn’t want me to work a full afternoon. The extra 2 hours won’t make much of a difference.

Last night wow. I ended up getting my paycheck no bonus money (through out the office actually) I’ve seen this happen before when management pays out too much bonus money. Also some people are going to have their wages reduced. What? But I had a fairly good night anyway. Last night I got 6 cards for $375 on cards and $565 on total. And our office is last and we’re paying out too much bonus money? Already just me working part time this week I’ve pulled in $655 in credit cards.

Anyway, I’m going in for my 4 hours. Nothing more nothing less. Actually Steve from Vancouver was in today. I wonder if this had anything to do with the lack of bonus money and wage rollbacks?

The good news is the Esks won 22-19 (Argos came close) and the Oilers won here 5-2. Last year the Wild’s record against the Oiler’s was 4-2. It’s been a good short week what with it being Thanksgiving on Monday, Thursday off for the emergent meeting, it’s been a nice week.
This morning, I’m at my bank down to Tim’s and get some breakfast and then put my 4 hours in and then home get my Max ticket and have a bite to eat and a little nap then dig into “The Space Wolf.” This weekend is mostly going to be a reading weekend. I’ve had enough TV.
On Coast last night Richard Hoagland was talking about Nasa’s Moon mission. I didn’t listen to a lot of the details but it looked like a good show. And of course they talked about the balloon boy episode of a couple of days ago.

I’m looking at the markets and the DJIA is down from breaking over 10,000 points. Nice to see that going strong. But what bothers me is why are we in a recession here in Alberta when Oil is sitting at $75 in October? I have an answer. It’s based upon bad policy Stelmach received last year to increase oil revenues. What was he smoking? More on this later.

Another Saturday morning but cold out there.

Another cell phone purchase that is a serious contender is the Blackberry Storm 2 not yet released. Vinny took a seat beside me showing his original Storm and his model doesn’t have wifi, unlike the new Storm 2 apparently has. At least according to the YouTube promo videos I’ve seen of it in comparison. He says I should see Jay as he works the Bell Canada booth over there in Bonnie dune Mall. That would mean a Saturday afternoon trip after work. Vinny said he pays $64/month for unlimited Internet and evenings and weekend calling. I think that plan comes with the Fun 20 bundle but I’d want Sirius satellite radio so I an listen to Hardcore Sports talk radio and that‘s an extra $8/month.
I left out of here at my usual time with Anne but she walked to feed the birds and then made her way to work. I caught my bus as I watched her. The bottleneck up here by Michael’s had me a bit worried she’d get to her train and on it before the bus got there. Then the bus has to stop at the two steps on the way but on the last stop behinds the theaters I could see her on the sidewalk working her way down. The bus pulled into Clairview terminal as I waited on the platform for her and we took the train in together. It was nice.

I got my cheque with pause times deducted but it was still around 19.5 hours due to my Lodge meeting last week. This wont happen during the next one because we’ll be doing mornings. Some days next week I’ll be on the train at 8:10am for the 3.5 hours. Yes I know I’ll lose the half hour but I plan on putting in a few split shifts and next week we’re apparently starting the 6 hour Saturday shift so that’s going to help.
However this weekend is thanksgiving weekend and that means I go in for today and I get Sunday and Monday off. Wuwho! Last night the Eskimos were ahead by 31-27 against BC with less then a minute remaining in play. BC’s receiver was covered by 2 guys that almost collided with each other.

With 12 seconds left in the game our kicker has a 60 yard field goal attempt to tie the game. No way. It fell short and wide anyway.

Last night on the job was dismal. The calls were slow and the customer was being obstinate. I was glad to get out of there with my $3 in debts owed my empties (lots of them) and over to Audrey’s. I asked to renege on the two Jim Butcher novels. Sorry Jim but I’m not ready to tackle Urban fantasy just yet. I got my last Star Wars book and a Dave Duncan fantasy duology. There. I’m done the 27 books I had acquired there in May.

Anne said if I just wanted to come strait home no problem. She was getting off at 9pm herself. We had the Esks game on TV at work. I looked for her to get on the train but I didn’t see her at The Bay station just after 9pm. I got in did some admin stuff and she walked in a few minutes later. Other then work dragging, it was a good day. In fact it was an even better week despite the Oiler’s loosing to Calgary Thursday and the Esks losing last night. There is hope the Oiler’s will pull off a win when they play the Habs here at Rexall place tonight. But tonight I’ve got nothing on before 8pm. Nothing on Sunday but the oil is on the road in Nashville Monday and I’ll be watching that game. More latter.

I'm having trouble sleeping lately

I got to bed about 3:30am and listened to a bit of Coast. I slept a little bit until about 5am or so and tried to get back to sleep. It was around 6am I figured I’d get up and do a bit of reading from “The Space Wolf” omnibus. I’m really enjoying this book. I like how King is using the Space Wolves as a quasi military religious order in a SFF setting. I read for an hour and tried going back to bed. I think I did about 7:30am or so.

I kept on waking and dozing off and on. This is the kind of mornings I need the morning shift because as tired as I was I couldn't sleep. I’d be home now tired enough for an afternoon nap and Anne could use the bus pass. Doing a few split shifts are going to be hard on me and the all day Saturday afternoon is as well. But I get off at 4:30pm and I can rush over to Audrey’s before they close at 5pm on a Saturday or if we get half an hour for lunch I can run over on my lunch break. We’ll be doing this new Schedule next weekend right after the Thanksgiving weekend. That 6.5 hour shift is going to be brutal. But I can use the extra hours. The Saturday just keeps me at my current hours. I’d probably do the split shift, Monday and Tuesday that way it’s just mornings off Wed, Thur, Fri. having Friday nights off will be a lot better for me as well. Anne works Wed, Fri and Saturday so for Saturday she’d have to get an extra ticket. I’ll do the splits when there is no Oiler game on. Speaking of which they won a game in a shootout at Rexall Place last night. Good stuff. Penner scored his 2nd goal. The next game is Thursday.

Anne and I were talking here about getting Boots fixed up because we don’t want him to spend another winter out there and playing revolving doors with the other cats. Boots wont travel a bus well so we’re going to take him down to one of the vets near us. It’ll cost us $175. We can barely afford our rent as we’re behind on that this month as it is.

Since this time yesterday we received a 10 degree drop in temperature. We barely got it +1 with a minus 4 wind chill. I haven’t seen the long range forecast yet so hopefully by the weekend it’ll warm up to the high single digits again.

I’ve had 2 awkward days in a row sleeping wise and tomorrow Pat and Berry want to take us out for breakfast Thursday morning. That’s ok they seem like nice people. I don’t mind getting up early again. The great thing about working the morning shifts is that I can watch the new shows when they come on. I haven’t seen Flash Forward or even the new Stargate Universe yet.

Last night on the job Jerry had me move to taps (retention). We were doing Cops for Kids, again. I was surprised even though I had a slow start at least I got a few cards. I ended up with $345 by break. I got 3 more cards for 5 and a $100 card. I was flying. I’ve been using a slightly different tap pitch by mentioning the charity in their Province. As soon as the customer asks “Where are you calling out from?” The sale is lost right there 90% of the time. They get pissed off when they ask that here in Edmonton and area because they know they can’t use the tired old “We only give locally.” I usually get about 6 of those a night. The other thing I’ve been saying in my pitch is asking to confirm their current address. Get them to say “Yes” a lot. That seems to work. I ended up with an $835 total a bunch of empties and a $10 bonus on my next pay-check. That’s what I call a great night. Unfortunately, we’re only going to run CFK for 3 weeks. The high tap numbers will drop off by Friday or Saturday. By Friday I’ll be getting about $600 totals then next week about $400-500 totals and the last week about $150-200 totals. Then we go onto Magic n Miracles. Jerry’s got all the campaigns listed out in order how we do them so we know what’s coming up next. We lost Block Parents though.

Anyhow, it’s time to double check this, post and update my Facebook page and ready for dinner.

This plan also allows me to work additional hours as well

We're getting a heavy wind storm out there

this evening that began about 4:30pm Saturday, it died down a little.

I'm happy to report that I've reached a decision about which Smart phne I'm going to buy: The Iphone 3Gs. I like the S because it can shoot and upload video to YouTube right from the phone. I like it's other features as well and now there is "Documents to Go" for the Iphone. Also, with Viigo I can listen to AM radio. This is great for listening to Edmonton Oiler broadcasts while there's say half an hour left in the game and I'm heading home. The data/phone plan is $60/month for a half Gb and unlimited evenings and weekend calling time. Plus theres a direct link to Apples Itunes. Those are just some of the features that brought me to this decision. THe only thing I don't l ike is that its a 3 year contract.

I'm just over the half way point of "The Space Wolves" Omnibus. With about 60 pages remaining in the 2nd book. I'm finding this part a little bit of a yawn with a lot of SF cliches. I'm going to try and finish the 2nd book today. At Goodreads there are 63 ratings and 8 reviews on this Omnibus. I'm enjoying this book but it seems a bit stillted in parts. I also want to read Joe Abercrombie's "First Law" series. Audrey's has the first 2 in Trade.

Friday I ordered the 1st 3 of John Ringo's "Poslene war" and the New Space Opera 2. But I hink on Monday I'm going to call and order 4 of Steven Erikson's "Books of the Fallen." I need "House of chains," "Midnight tides," "Reapers gale," and "Toll the hounds" is already there in the shelves.

It's a nice looking Friday out there

Looks like a decent enough day out there.

I’m going in at my usual time and I’m going to bring my pay stubs with me and bring everything together for bm this afternoon. He’s got a lot to go over there so I don’t expect I’ll get my VP next Friday or anything. But I’m going to put the VP request in for the full amount, YTD. Not a friggin $34 crap either. I’ll write on the release pay I should be getting back the full amount as well from this cheque. There was no overpayment. I never had anything like what the amount that last Dec 19 email said, on any of my pay stubs. But I’ll bring this all in for bm this afternoon. I’m not expecting any bonus money this cheque. I’m only expecting my full 23.5 hours. But I’ll go in see what I can do and get my cheque and the empties. Anne says I don’t need to go to the bank because she got paid today. If I get my $20 I’ll have enough for a book. If my vacation pay comes back in full next week then I’ll be able to get all my special order books there.

I’m going to try the new Lotto max soon. If there’s still time to get the Friday draw or get the draw for Saturday’s 6/49. Since nobody won it Wednesday it’s an estimated $8. Wednesdays draw was $3,441,246.00. Not quite $4M but I’ll take even 2nd place.

Anne’s out spending our rent money. Good thing we have a bit of savings but those savings are dwindling fast and we haven’t yet heard from CRHC. No doubt our application is still in a slush pile in somebody’s intake tray. And most likely since Anne had changed her jobs a couple of times we had the employment details filled in, once intake does receive it then its going to have to come back for revision. Hopefully we won’t have to go through another 2-6 months of waiting.

Ok lets get onto some Science Fiction. Robert J Sawyer’s FlashForward pilot debuted the other day on I think ABC. Unfortunately I missed it. I’m working nights so I miss all the good stuff. Entertainment tonight the other night was talking about it. Even though I haven’t seen the show yet, it’s based on the Robert J Sawyer novel of the same name and I’ve been following the threads in his email group. It’s nice too see fresh original Science Fiction for a change. I think its airing on this Sunday night at 8:30pm. I’ll look around the listings for it tonight.

Last night we were able to watch the Oiler/Tampa Bay Lightning game broadcast out of Winnipeg. And this was by accident. TB was the Home team. The game was in the MTS center and there were a lot of Winnipeg Jet jersey’s in the crowd. Also a few “Bring back the Jets” banners hoisted here and there in the arena. The game was tied at 3 until our own D decides to take a foolish penalty during the closing minute. TB scored 4-3.

Excellent! I got my $20 and $3 for a 6/49 ticket and I don’t need to go up to my bank. Good stuff. I can go get my ticket bring that VP stuff into bm and hopefully get that in motion, get my cheque and then hunt for the empties put my 3.5 hours in and head over to Audrey’s and get one of the Star Wars books and head home.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

Not a lot going on

which is why I've been posting so seldom here and even on my website blog. All I'm doing is reading, writing and watching a little TV sleeping and going to work. Exciting huh?

On my website I did post a cute cat photo today.

I've been having a headache all evening even while on the job. Speaking of which that went well Monday. I ended up with a total of $415 and 2 cards. Not bad for Semies.

We had a great day weather wise Monday at +20C. For late September, this is pretty good. I'm enjoying the fine weather but I fear it's going to drop in a few days and by mid October we'll be seeing +8C's things like that. I'd take anything from -10C-+10C this time of year.

I'm still reading "The Space Wolf" Omnibus, and it's pretty good. It's actually inspiring me to do a bit of writing on my own. I'm putting together a fantasy novel. I've already got 2 Chapters written. There's no title for it right now. So far it's about a female bard and an Ork. I have no idea where this story is going and no schedule or deadline but I have a few good action scenes in it so far. I don't even know if I'll be able to finish it. I'm writing a bit each day...

Last night's "Monday night Raw" wasn't half bad. I didn't care too much for the guest host. Announcer Lillian Garcia delivered a heart wrenching goodbye address to the fans. She had a 10 year contract. She offered no explanation as to why she's leaving the show.

Otherwise not much is going on right now. I'll post this and get back to you Bloggers latter this week.

Working through the work week

I'm just working out the week. I go to bed about 3am up about noon, read my book go through my email and blogs have lunch and off to work for 4 hours come home about 10pm and do my stuff before supper and read until about 3am or listen to YouTube music. That's about it, nothing spectacular.

Work went well, some new fellow asked if what I was reading was "The Space Wolf" omnibus. I think his name is Connor. He said he liked it and we talked about the book for awhile. That was kind of nice. I had no cards and a slow start to the shift. I pulled out of the hat $255 in sales on the night. Not great but I'll take it.

It's only Wednesday already?

Lack of sleep overnight made me cranky and sullen. I needed to read and get a something to drink. The 2nd book in “The Space Wolf” Omnibus is picking up. Way more dialogue and I’m enjoying this.

On the job last night the shift was slow. Super divided the room up 3 ways: The front 21 was more or less full doing CF Calgary. HO isn’t doing it because their doing (USS) CRF taps from our efforts calling cold. Then in the back about 8 of them were doing ASRAB.

Last night Anne went to the Empire half price Tuesday movies. For $6 she got popcorn a candy bar and a card from Empire’s recent “Songo.ca” music file system for 3 free downloads. Not bad. I’m looking forward to seeing “Surrogates.” I think it’s out now. But their half price Tuesdays are a pretty good deal. It’s not like the good old days where movies were $2 even though movies were about $8.

I called Anne after the shift with my bag of empties and let her know I was on my way home. I got home to an empty house and fired up the computer. I heard this crash from the balcony. Immediately I’m thinking the birdcage. Sure enough it fell off it’s stand. I panicked and in a frenzy hurried to the balcony hoping Sugar was still in her cage. A wave of relief fell over me. What happened? I have no idea. But that table she uses for sugars cage is very unstable and I don’t like it at all.

Of course when she came home that incident developed into another one causing bad feelings as she blamed me for it. Anyways that was blown over.

I went to bed about 3:30am this morning feeling rally tired and drained but couldn’t sleep this morning even getting up at 1pm.

I got another reply from the New Westminster public Library about the New Courthouse under construction email correspondence I’m having with one of their librarians and archivists. She said to have the photo emailed to me costs $10 but it’s not a very good photo. She said it was dated February 16th 1979. I wonder where it was taken? My guess from the best vantage point possible, the flat roof (then) of the Bench & Gavel building. I replied back asking how I can pay for this photo without a credit card and my Bench and Gavel inquiry. So far no reply yet. But this confirms some suspicions I have about the area and that the New Courthouse (NC) was under construction in 1979 and she said February 16th. It was being built throughout most of 1979 and all of 1980. It was opened in September 1981. The whole process from February 16th 1979 September 1981 a total of 32 months. Almost 3 years, so chances are this photograph could be of the parkade being ripped apart and the surrounding sidewalk protective covering and possibly equipment in a muddy field. I’d love to have this photo.

So tonight I’m in for another 4 hours of most likely CRF. Tonight is the 6/49 $14M draw.

Other then this, not much going on. I’m about to have some lunch and then it’s off to my 4 hours. Already it’s been a long week and it’s only Wednesday.

I had a great Sunday....

and I would like to have at least another day off before I go back to work but I'm lucky I have a job. What with so much unemployment around here. Right now our jobless rate is at 7.4%. A year ago we were at 3.5%!

The recession first broke here in Edmonton around October but the signs were there around August of last year. How long will this recession last? Hard to say.

Alright, enough of that. SF Signal yesterday had a great YouTube clip on Steampunk. I always thought Steampunk was a sub genre of Cyberpunk. Boy was I wrong. In a way Steampunk is alternate history what with merging the industrial revolution with SF elements. Some would say Jules Verne is Steampunk.

The only down side to Sunday was that I kept on getting this eye irritation like having an eyelash in ones eye.

Yeesh, what a week

More economic bad news on a smaller scale here in Edmonton/Calgary. Telus is closing down it’s 911 call center operations laying off 50 employees each in Calgary and Edmonton. I’m sure some of them will be applying at my place of employment. We’ve lost a lot of call center work here in Edmonton over the last 2-5 years.

Today is the anniversary of 9/11, or in other words the tragic incident of Tuesday, September 11th 2001. On this date 8 years ago marks the anniversary of bombing of the World Trade Center where terrorists took control of aircraft and slammed them into the twin towers causing thousands of deaths there and at the US Pentagon. This incident changed the world forever. I’m going to have an article on this in my “For what it’s worth,” section.

I’m still reading “The Space Wolves” Omnibus and just about closing in on the first book. William King is a good writer. This may be a bit of a spoiler but I’m finding that the book lacks dialogue between characters. I‘d say the book is about 20% dialogue and the rest description. I don’t know what‘s ahead in the second book Regnar‘s Claw but my guess is more of the same. I’m enjoying this book but I’ll be relieved when I’m done with it and at my reading rate should be 1st week in October.

The job goes ok. We’re doing CRF and a lot of people aren’t saying the disclaimer netting themselves more and larger sales. The new guy beside me speaks so low I could hardly hear him but he was getting sales after sales as well. I could hear the girl on the other side of me not saying the disclaimer getting large sales. I made a point of this to Jerry and he made sure people got the word.

Tonight, I’m in for my 5-8:30pm but I’m going in for Saturday. Before the cold weather sets in I’m going to talk to my Doctor and get my Saturdays off. I mean I’ve done it a lot of times before but I’m tired of getting up at 7am on a Saturday morning when it’s -20C for work. Being diabetic it’s hard on me.

Apparently Spider Robinson won’t be at our Pure Speculation event coming up October 2-3-4th. Seems his wife is under going chemo treatment. My heart goes out to them. I’ll still pop in as there could be other people I need to see there as well.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now

I forgot to post this from last night. Maybe because today is 999..

I just finished taking out the trash and I decided to get some mild evening air out behind us here and I hear this rustling of grass and leaves. Some white and dark. “Boots?” He cries back to me and I’m walking slowly and he catches up going from tree to cover to tree and he follows me. I stop and he rubs up against me and follows me back around to the front door waiting to get inside but I can’t let him up right away. I buzz our intercom hoping Anne will answer and she just buzzes me up instead. So I hurry upstairs and let her know Boots is by the door. He followed me to get inside so she’s down there now trying to collect him. despite after coming down from a long weekend.

I'm still reading "The Space Wolf" and enjoying it immensely. Not much is going on at the moment though.

What's this? Sony is bringing the price of their PS3 down to $299? I knew I should have waited because this is the price I paid for my Xbox 360. Not that I'm not glad I got the Xbox in December I am. I think there's more bang for the buck with the PS3. I think this price is for a limited time only though.

SF Signal has a Mind meld for the best bad guy in SFF. Of course it's Darth Vader hand down and according to my top 20 list of SFF Villains. Some would say Lex Luthor but Darth all the way.

Coast to Coast was pretty good last night talking about Atlantis. Now I would have never have known this but apparently today is .09.09'09. The 9th day of the 9th month of the 9th year. Kind of interesting because of the animated movie 9 coming out, and the Beatles video game and the song "N0.9" (Song on the video game?) lots of references to #9. Of course a lot of people relate 999 to the opposite of 666, there's that to. Maybe I should buy another 6/49 quick pick. It's strange numerology for sure.

Its been a busy couple of days

this week at work we got new management. Out goes, Moe, Brendin, DC and in comes Jerry from Vancouver. He's a pretty good guy so far.

This morning I went in for a rare Saturday morning shift and I'm glad I went in holding out on an hours sleep over night. I wasn't feeling all that badly and I got a Tim's breakfast sandwich with my coffee and my insulin. It was day 2 of CF for me and I did a lot better pulling in 5 CC's for $230 and $360 in sales. It wasn't top total but I got $15 in bonus money out of the deal and a modest collection of empties to take home. BM was there doing payroll for a bit also. Most likely checking in who was and wasn't there for their stat pay.

After work I headed over to Audrey's and bought another Star Wars New Jedi order book. I've got 5 left in the series with 7 books remaining in my special order.

I needed to be home about 3pm as Anne needed to get the bus pass for her job, I think she's working until midnight tonight. I hope so.

Other then that, not much going on. I get 2 days off and Monday with pay because of Labor Day. We had a pretty good crew at work today.

Hey, hey I won on the 6/49 lotto! That's $5 bucks! I got 2 numbers plus the bonus number. All right. I can roll that over and buy another ticket on Tuesday. I think this is the first time this year I won anything on the 6/49. Wuwho! Hehehe.

Anyway, that's about all for now

Monday wasn't that bad as days go......

I had a decent enough evening on the job Monday night. Monday night Raw was a blast. Even Anne enjoyed it. Currently I'm just starting a Warhammer 40K book and it's not bad even though the font is hard on the eyes. Weather wise it's been hot around here. I don;t mind the heat. Thursday is Lodge night and I'm all geared up for that.

Pat's fantasy hotlist is talking about co-author of the malazan series in an interview from Clocksworld. At SF Signal they've got a lot of links to free SFF stories. So much to read......

I'm trying to get Goodreads to behave and replace

"In the company of others" with "Truth and Steel" an Everquest book. I started this on the 26th and I'm already beyond the halfway point, it's really good. Thomas M. Reid is an excellent writer.

other then that not a lot of things are going on. I've got today off and I'm just relaxing. Anne's home and about to head out to Walmart. I think they're open all night.

There's been some interesting discussion and development going on about the proposed downtown arena/complex. If it happens. If the katz group is going to do this, now is the time to get it done while construction costs are low before the economy turns around again. Construction costs were 30% lower here the same time last year but that window is slowly closing.

I have the day off today and there's an Eskimo/Hamilton game at Commonwealth. That's on at 5pm. I also want to finish the Everquest book this weekend. Or try to.

Finally I have enough cash to get the Ben Bova Omnibus book Sunday. Yes. That's the last of about 4 Omnibus books I had from the big order in the Spring.

At work we've had a tech guy from head office taking out our notepad and other programs because they were a security breech. We're not supposed to have pens or markers or anything at our dialer's. That makes sense. We are doing one of the worst campaigns our company has to offer and thank God it has a 3 weeks left to go. We might break it up with something else, hard to say. Super sent Darrel and Dave (sitting beside my right and left) home early because they couldn't get anything. I ended up with $145 and no cards.

However we had Calgary/Argos CFL game on and I had double or nothing riding on the Argos tenth strait loss at home. Once in a while you've got to go in on a long shot. I bet DC as well so I'm only out $2 and I paid Greg the rest of that $5 for the cable. The game was tied for most of the night and Calgary was leading 23-20. Toronto couldn't get in close enough for a field goal to tie the game.

Anyway gang, that's about all for now.

Not a whole lot to report

today. I'm enjoying a coffee at the moment and relaxing. I've been going to bed late and sleeping late. Not good. Tonight I'm going to get to bed early. Yet I recall even in my 30's I'd go to bed about 1 am but I'd be up at 7am for work.

Just on CNN watching a timeline of Doctor administered meds for Michael Jackson. The last does of Propofol he took was about 10:40am June 25th but it was all the other little doses of other things before that. Doses that would knock out a horse. At 10:40 his Doctor gave him 25mg of Propofol and he never woke up from it. Elvis was big on medication as well and so was L Ron Hubbard when he was found dead in his mobile home but that's another story.

Still reading "In the company of others." It's slow going but its her first stand alone novel after all. Julie E. Czerneda is better known for her Trade pac series. I've still got to get the next 2 in that series if they're still in print.

I knew it was going to come to this eventually. BM is opening up the business room for the evening shift and they are going to flood 43 stations with trainees. Pull them in, use them spit them out. Keep the good ones, cycle people in and out of here. Sounds like a boiler room operation to me. The good news about this is more pop cans to take home. This week bm gets my payrol time line details and my payrol issue will be resolved. When that happens I'm going to apply at the other job. If I get it, I'll work 3 days a week there and continue my job here and see how low it can go before they kick me out.

Oh and last night's Raw was excellent. A lot better then Sunday's Summerslam. I'd rate Raw a 9 and Sunday's Summerslam a 7. Incidentally we got a credit on our bill for missing the first half hour of Summerslam, so we got to watch 90% of that for free. Anne's pretty good at wrangling out a deal.

Anyway gang, that's about all for now

Sunday, August 23, 2009

I had a great birthday weekend. Friday I got my book and Saturday Fort Edmonton Park and Sunday Summerslam. I can't complain too much.

despite Shaw short changing me with my Summerslam ppv, (we missed the first half hour and we paid for it in advance as well.) I still had a good weekend. Anne says I can go in for afternoon hours on Tuesday because that's when I need to talk with the boss about my vacation pay. I want this resolved before the end of this month.

Coast has a decent UFO show on this evening and I'd like to catch some of that while I can. Anne didn't have ribs for me but she had pork chops marinating in the fridge and they were tasty and after that I went out for a bit of a walk around the back here looking for Boots absent for a few days now.

Using the Google earth measuring tool in feet I discovered something interesting. Before I got married I'd go often to Bella foodland (a little corner store a few blocks away) to get my Coca Cola fix etc. Using the Google earth measuring tool from my place to Bella is about 745 feet. To get 5 miles by just walking around here, I'd be looking at making a circuit 5 times up to Victoria Drive head south to 136th street down to Sifton school head North behind our place out to the sidewalk. That 5 times is approximately 5 miles. The reason why I mention this is because if I can't get a guards license and when I get my vacation pay I'll join a health club. I like the part time guard job, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday's because it will give me exercise and more chance to read and listen to Coast and make some extra cash. If I don't get the guard job then I'll get the health club membership. I'd rather get the guard job from the same company I worked at 1978 and 1994. The benefits are obvious. The guard job would fit right in with getting a pedometer so I can keep track of how many steps I can take in a shift.

Yes, I had a great weekend. Now its back to the grind. BM gave a bit of a talk Friday saying how the tap shooters wont be the old guard anymore like myself and others. By this he means that if we don't do line hour we get moved to the back 20. There will be a constant flux of staff moving from one system to the other. I don't see them sticking to that with the source that we currently have. It's too much of a headache and sounds like a make work project. That's why I want my vacation pay and the guard job as a back up.

Anyway gang, that's about all for now.

I had a terrific day out there at Fort Edmonton Park

and I posted photos of my day over there at my website but despite not having any sleep the night before I still had a good time. I also discovered they have Coke in glass bottles. Coke zero that is but they charged like $3 for a bottle. I wanted the bottle. I want to do this again next year.

I get called into the back compter office with a co worker by

bm and I'm thinking, ok now what? So he says that my bank is phenomenal I just need to pick up my low totals is all. I didn't ask what my bank rate was at but that certainly put me in a good mood. It was a nice birthday present to say the least.

I also finished "The Wilding" early yesterday and there is a short review of it on my web site. I really enjoyed this book.

I've got today and I'm off for a few days even though I have some Lodge duty to do at Fort Edmonton Park Saturday. I'll have all day Sunday to sleep in as Anne is ordering Summerslam.

No real high points from Monday.......

With this being my 8th novel I've read so far this year, I’ve got about 128 pages left to go in “The Wilding.” I should have the book read before the end of the week. The I can start on “In the Company of others.”

This Saturday I’m performing curator duty with Dale at Fort Edmonton park Lodge. I’ve never been to Fort Edmonton park before although I’ve seen the pictures uploaded from Google Earth of the grounds but I have no clue as to where the Lodge is located. I don’t know if we’re in suit and full Masonic regalia, or how long we’re there for or if we’re there for or if we have to bring our own food or are we going to have a meal or what. Dale is a nice guy and all but we haven’t exactly resonated with each other. I’ll be calling people up today to find out what’s going on. I’ll bring my camera along and have Dale take a few photos of me.

Today the big guys are in the office, yawn. I’m there business as usual and to put my 4 hours in. Greg doesn’t know it yet but I won’t be in on Sunday because for my birthday Anne’s ordering me Pizza and we’ve got Summerslam all ordered. $39.99 + tax isn’t bad. Usually comes to about $45. I order 2 WWE pay per views each year from my “meager discretionary” income.

The other thing I’m observing this up coming weekend is Calgary’s Con Version-25. Now that I know when it’s on I can plan for next year. But I’d like to meet Tanya Huff and Terry Brooks. Get my photo taken with both, all 3 of us together. Next year I’m going to plan for a 1 day trip and head down there. Most likely there’s some from Edmonton venturing down but that’s for 3 days most likely. This year at our own Pure Speculation we’re having Spider Robinson join us and I’m definitely down with that in October…….12:20am> The above was from yesterday afternoon. Anne sat with me while I waited for my bus and I headed into work picking up my 6/49 ticket on the way in. The big bosses didn’t appear to be in but bm seemed pissed that I wasn’t in on Saturday and I had to remind him we made an arrangement I could trade Saturdays for Sundays and that I was in yesterday. We did BOB all night. Yeesh, what a disaster. I got a good haul of empties and no card sales this evening. I came close but the customer was away from her purse. I was glad to get out of there with a $220 total. I got “mugged” by some people I work with on the train crowding around me annoying me. So at the next stop I got off and took the last car and read on the way home.

I watched a pretty good Monday night Raw. DX made a brief comeback but they got ambushed by Legacy. On a scale from 1-10, I’d rate last nights show about a 6. DX needs to be Evolution with another wrestler in their ranks. Four would be better or at least 1 other wrestler with them. It was a good show but I’m sure this DX/Legacy storyline is just beginning to develop.

Anyway gang, that’s about all for now.

I've been having quite a week lately and I forgot to post in here......

....so I'm about to correct this tonight.

We went to bed about 4am this morning and woke up about 1pm. We felt great. Anne went out to do her shopping and I did a lot of reading out of "The Wilding." Anne's out there now getting potatoes.

Last night however I went to get my book over there at Audrey's. The New Jedi Order "Behind enemy lines 2." I also got a 6/49 ticket for the big $16M draw this evening. other then that not a lot going on. I'm still struggling with getting rid of this cold. I've got lots of pfhlem in my throat and sinuses.

Earlier when Anne came in I was watching WWE Vintage showing some of the older matches from Summerslam's from the mid 1990's. Anne made me a soup and sandwich for supper. I'm good with that. I thought Jerry Lawler and Vince McMahon made a great announce team. It was fun to watch. I recall those years especially the last match from 1996 with my first year at Villa Maria apartments. I didn't have pay per view back then or even cable.

Still struggling with this flu/cold whatever it is.......

I woke up with a splitting headache. Just before work Anne went across the street to get me some real Halls cough drops. I went into work and got my cheque. No bonus money or anything like that. Fridays are great because there’s lots of pop cans and I got a whack of empties. Despite what ever it is I have, I ended up doing not to badly sales wise. Super split us up into 3 teams playing most dollars on Credit card sales gets $25 a team player. I had 3 in the first half and a decent total. More empties and Anne called. In the 2nd half I got more empties and a total of 5 CC sales. Our team had the lead but that lead quickly evaporated big time. The first team had something like $880 while we only had $740 by the end of the night. It was pretty good going. I got my bus as it pulled up to my stop to my bank and I got inside with a splitting headache. The same one. As I was trying to do my banking some kids came in off the street plying me with this hard luck story. I didn’t want any trouble. This is distracting. I wish they’d lock those doors after hours so just people with bank cards can get inside.

I did my banking and went to wait for my train at Central and headed home. While coming out of the tunnel I felt better with cooler air relieving me slightly. This nice clean cut young man asked me where Stadium station was. We had a bit of a chat and he got off at Rexall. Anne called me while I was on the bus at Clairview waiting and my head was still throbbing. I noticed this black kid standing in the exit back door as we were heading out and I asked if he remembered me about the Internet business he was running. I wanted him to show me what he has because its MLM based and while I‘ve been there done that, this fellow was completely honest. He smiled and said yes he remembered me but I had nothing to write his number on with at the time but he gave it out to me and like a mantra I repeated the last 4 numbers over and over again until I got home. I wrote the number down and tried to call him but his service providers recorded message said “the customer was unavailable at this time.” I‘ll try and reach him today. Hopefully this is a little side business Anne and I can do together. No it‘s not Amway or Avon.
I got home to catch the mid part of the 2nd quarter Riders/BC game. I had 2 2 bets going on at work saying 1-4 BC will win. There was even a dribble move. Something rarely seen in the CFL. Lions won 35-20. Ching-ching, that’s $5 bucks guys.

Now this is cool: Pulp's Science Detective Meets Comics' Dark Knight Detective In my early twenty’s in the early 1970’s I was read the Marvel “Doc Savage man of Bronze” comic books. Its nice to see DC is reissuing these. According to Fantastic Fiction the publisher ran 192 novels of Doc most of which were written by Lester Dent. I would have loved to get the original novels but most likely these are long out of print.

Ok speaking about business and such like I said yesterday Stats Can released the unemployment numbers for July. Nationally Canada is at 8.6%. Alberta is at 7.2% and here in Edmonton we’re at 7%. This is seasonally adjusted of course when the kids go back to school in September. I’m surprised the numbers are that high here in Edmonton when this time last year we were under 4% Apparently this is the highest the jobless rate has been here in Alberta Stats Can said in 13 years. Anne better keep her job at Pizza and same with me where I am. Without our jobs we can’t get housing subsidy.

Now I heard this story a few days ago on Coast and last night local news ran with the story about the Nasa Kepler mission finding earth size planets. Astronomers are saying that Kepler (the spacecraft) is actually working. They’re using a yellow star like our own and have found a planet but in order to find a planet like ours the mission will have to wait a year or more because like our own planet orbiting the Sun once every 365 days. The article said that the observation to confirm a orbit by an Earth sized planet might be 3 years. First they spot the event, then they wait for the event again, and once more to confirm. But the Kepler mission is taking an area of 100,000 stars. The article suggested confirmation of earth like planets might be around 2011-2012. This is all part of Nasa’s Terrestrial Planet Finder mission. This doesn’t mean that just because there are earth size planets out there doesn’t mean they are habited by advanced civilizations.

Pat posted the winners for his Joel Shepherd Cassandra Kresnov series, I enter as many of Pat’s Give-a-ways as possible. I haven’t won yet but I’m against about a thousand subscribers. The odds could be better of course. The Hotlist is one of my daily blog rounds.

Today, I’m continuing with more FC memory work. With luck I could get a bit of piano practicing in. I’m still working on the chords for “Twinkle Twinkle little star.” or TT for short. It’s such a simple song and I’ve got the animation on how it goes so that should help. Two words for 1 chord held on a 2 count. The first part is C,C,F,C. It’s simple enough. Also, I’ll be reading more of “The Wilding.” But my main entertainment for today is the Edmonton/Hamilton CFL game and then the Winnipeg/Calgary game. So for the most part it’s football on the couch all day. Plus more FC memory work.

If that’s not enough then I’ve got to check my 6/49 ticket to see if I won the big one. Yeah right. It’s not that big of a draw at about $4M.

I had a pretty good week what with getting 20 CC sales and 2 days at line hour. I can’t remember when it was the last time I got 20 CC sales.

For Coast’s Friday night show now underway they are talking about exorcisms and possessions. They can’t talk about Ufology all the time.

Since I’ve got this template I’ve had a block called “For what it’s worth.” My first article was about my ranting on UFO’s but the link wont open for me. I did the coding wrong. Now the brief “article.” Is up and running.

And Finally I added a new article to the “For What its worth Department.” This months topic is the JFK assassination and my thoughts on the topic.

Anyway gang, that‘s all for now.

I'm developing a bit of a cold today...

I've got the runny eyes, scratchy throat type thing. Should be nothing to worry about.

Well, I didn't win the big $35M last night. Two winners split the big jackpot for over $17M. There was 1 winner in Saskatchewan and another winner in Quebec. I got 1 number right. Saturday's draw is $4M and tonight I'm getting a ticket. I picked 2 MLB games based upon Covers.com: FM/WN and AR/PP. FM and AR to win. There's no money riding on this thing.

Anne left out of here just now to take the empties in. I get $10 and on Friday I'll apply that towards my "allowance" and get the Ben Bova Omnibus book. I'll have 10 books left once I get this one. There's the 7 Star Wars "New Jedi order," then there's the 2 Jim Butcher novels. after that there's the CJ Cherryah Omnibus but it's in the size of a regular novel and priced the same way as well. I just might get the 2 Jim Butcher novels. I don't know yet.

Other then this not much going on. It's the dog days of summer. Tonight I'm in the office scratchy throat and all and I'm sure this isn't going to sit to well with me. last night we began BOB and that's September 20th so we're going to be doing this campaign right up until the week before the event. BM will reset the list a few times and we'll get a bit of success with it and we'll take a break from it for a week now and then to break it up.

Anyway gang, that's all for now
