About me

I grew up in a bedroom community called Coquitlam BC as of 2008 has a population of 121,452 according to Wikipedia. I'm the oldest of 5 kids in the Shannon family. Me, Rick (died) Mike, Martha, Jeff.

Before the Shannon family settled down, I recall the following places I used to live at: Crescent Beach (South Surrey)Howie Ave Coquitlam and 916 Regan Avenue Coquitlam. I lived there from the time I was 7 year old until I was 18. During those years from 1960-1971 I went through a lot. I went through 5 different schools in 1963 I was at Miler Park when Kennedy was killed and in 1967 I was at Winslow when during the 1967 1967 Centennial celebration week, mom discovered while I was watching television how my back was hunched over. I had scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and later that year I would end up in the Vancouver General hospital for a the back operation having surgery with 2 metal rods in mys spine, still there today. in 1969 I was recovering from my back operation. I was 17 years old hearing a lot about Woodstock. But growing up in the 1960's I discovered a love for Marvel comic books. As a teenager the closest store to us was Soupys market about half a mile away from 916 Regan ave and that's where I'd buy most of my Marvel comics.

In 1971 my brother Rick got busted for possession of pot and as a result I got his 2 Alice Cooper tickets. That was my first concert. it was about this time I began dabbling in wargaming and a bit of writing. I bought this boxed writers course and I think my buddy Charles has it somewhere in his library as I recall giving it to him for rent money when I was staying at his place in 1973.

My first job was working at a fast food place called Burger chef n 1970. I was a jack of all trades there there but that ended. In 1971 mom got me a job working at a newspaper plant stuffing fliers. My father was a pipe fitter by trade working in the Vancouver area up until 1973 when he and eventually mom moved to Fort MacMurray to work on the Syncrude plant. My 2nd job in 1972 was working with Canadian pacific Railway CPR at the Port Coquitlam branch as in 1972 we were living just up the hill from Port Moody on Clarke Road. In 1973 I got a job with Western technical trimming and cutting blueprints. Yes that's how they did it back in the day. It was around this time I was heavily into ready my buddy's Perry Rhodan, Star Trek and the Ace doubles SF books. I was also involved chasing after a girl in the Church of the Nazarene catty corner to Soupys. in the early 1970's I was very into this group. My local buddies, Dave, Gord, Pete etc were all into it but none of us were what Christian......(more latter)
