I've added a few social networking buttons

that I'm not all that comfortable with. I like the Twit This button and the Digg button but I'm not sure about the Buzz button. The thing is I need to have these buttons at the bottom of the page along side the Twit this! I'll figure it out somehow.

My wife Anne is quirky if anything. Her place of work last week reset her hours for this week and then they said she can make up for those missing hours by going in Monday for just 2 hours. So she goes in and takes care of that. Yesterday morning she has me getting her up at noon. Ok. I wake her and I'm about to ask what time she goes in for today but she's like half awake. She ends up leaving out of here at 2pm. About 2:15pm I'm getting a call from her thinking, uh oh, is she laid off? Did she lose her job? What gives? She told me that she wasn't scheduled to be in until around 4pm. She was mad at herself for going in 2 hours earlier then was needed. I could have had a nice lunch but I had to eat ravioli instead. When I got home from work she later told me all she did was ride the train from Clairview to South Campus a couple of times and that killed time for her. Me I'd have no problem with killing time. Give me 2 hours to read a book and I'd be happy.

I had a slow evening on the job last night. We did CBF and the taps were not very kind to me. I got zero CC sales and a measly $310 in sales. But its a Wednesday. Need I say more about that!

To say I'm a little nervous about my gig in the Lodge later this evening is putting it mildly. But we're going to have a bit of a practice session before we get underway. I'd be nice if the fellow ends up being a no show. Yeah like that's going to happen.

And I didn't win on my 6/49 draw yesterday either. I even bought a quick pick with no Extra added to it. Strange though, the Quick pick and my ticket both had the number 44 at the end.

Over there at SF Signal, they're talking about the Kindle DX. I don't know much about this device except the following: It is set for a Summer release, it looks huge, Price around $500 and its supposed to replace newspapers. Fat chance. But what about the Canadian market? Are we going to be shut out due to the US credit card thing, again? There is a work-around this for Canadian consumers but there shouldn't need to be.

Anyway gang, that's about all for now

I don't really have a lot to say today

but at least the weather is getting better. I've got my window opened up. Boots is sleeping beside me peacefully. And, I'm ready to go into work in about an hour or so.

I woke up at noon with a headache and I decided to sleep for a bit longer, headache gone.

Still reading "The third Lynx." I wanted to have this thing read by now but it's been tough finding time to read an hour and really get into reading an hour. I read about 10 pages/day mostly on the way to and from work. but at least I'm almost at the halfway point in the book.

I added some new links in the Resources section

I thought I'd share.

Not much going on over the last couple of days except Blogging and paying attention to the federal Budget.

I'm about 80% of the way through "Runner." It's not a bad book but I want to go onto somethng fresh. Most likely I'll be reading Timothy Zahn's "The third Lynx." Sorry the book cover images don't work as they do on my website. We're using "mimages," what ever they are.

Anyway the Federal Budget was past barely but is on "probation," the Federal Liberals say. What a bunch of crap.

I wanted to ad more links to my blog rounds, here but Blogger unlike my website wont allow me to copy and paste a large ammount of URL's. I have to do this one at a time and it's very time consuming.

Not much going on

over the last few days.

Anne's sister called said she's flying out of Winnipeg to meet with work coleeges here and to visit for a few hours with her sister, my wife. They plan on meeting for coffee at the Corona Tim's around 8pm.

I got out there at 4pm for my bus to my train and my train ride into work. Man was the wind blowing. I decided to go right to the end of the line and read. I read about 5 pages.

Work went well. I had about $300 raised by break on my tally sheet and I got a CC sale as well. The Oiler's were off to a good start hosting Toronto. We got our cheques and I had another decent shift for November pulling in $805 on the night. The Oiler's were down 4-2 late in the 2nd when Moe shut us down. I could feel my bsl dropping and the shakes coming on. I asked DC if he had some change I could borrow (he owes me a buck) for a candy bar or something but he only had bills. But fortunately there was a box of his Tim's tidbits with 4 donuts he offered me, which I wolfed down. That felt better. I didn't receive any bonus money tonight but I was a bit Po'd by the size of my cheque. No one to blame but me I guess. I want to give Greg $10 for the cable and I owe Moe $20 and all I get is $20/week and I have books waiting for me at Audrey's. I have responsibilities here and to my wife and I realize this but something has to give.

Since I usually take my insulin shots about 12 hours apart, I thought I'd need to keep it in the fridge at work all the time if I'm working extra hours. Or plan to. I realize that if I take my shot at say noon here at home before I go to work for an extra shift I can take it again when I come home, no need to transport my insulin anywhere. I don't need to store my insulin at work anymore. I'd still need to monitor my bsl and I can bring my glucometer along with me. This way I can put in a few extra afternoons. I don't care about the paper balls anymore.

I hurried out to my bus adjacent to Tim's on Jasper looking for Anne and her sister through Tim's street level windows but my bus was fast approaching. I did my banking and caught the train home. It was still windy out there. Out behind our place Boots was no where to be seen. I went inside to catch the last if any of the Oiler game. Oiler's lost 4-2.

It also occurred to me that because I take my insulin 12 hours apart, if I took a shot here at around 8am before I leave and then take it when I come home about 9:40pm, that might be OK enough to take the Manpower services job. That is if their client still needs 50 positions filled. I'll call Ms later this morning to see if I can set up an interview. I need to realize also that if Ms hires me on to do the training it's only for 3 weeks. Then I can work 12-9 and have my Saturdays off. Thursday Lodge meetings I can sub for Saturday.

Anyway Bloggers that's all for now.

Yesterday afternoon

after I locked everything up and waited for my bus, I felt ok and got to Clairview station. A brief wait. I got to read for a bit and we were underway. However just before the train crossed the Yellowhead highway it stalled saying there is some kind of situation ahead on the line causing LRT delay. We waited there for about 20 minutes. I cracked open a can of diet pop and read my book. When the driver said we were allowed to proceed the train limped along to Rexall, then Stadium. Just after Stadium crossing I think 92nd the Police had a large area of track tapped off and a squad car. When we got underground we sped up normally and I missed my stop and got off at Grandin. I called My Supervisor at the Office and said to Moe that I’d be detained. I ended up getting in at 5:15pm. First time I’ve ever been late. I ended up with $350 as we weren’t doing Magic. Thank God. I had a pretty good night pulling in a $10 bonus.

I woke up around 11pm figuring I’ll sleep until about 12:20pm and catch how the afternoon markets are doing since the new US bail out plan was accepted-first part. But when I woke up it was 2pm! Yikes, I didn’t mean to sleep in this late. So I fixed a coffee. Anne’s off today as well and since she figured I’m not at lodge tonight, there goes my $5 and I won’t get a full pay cheque Friday for missing last Monday. However we have just enough to keep things going month-by-month but next week Anne is going to be applying for rental subsidy. Even though we don’t have rent controls here in Alberta like they do in other Provinces, we have subsidy. It works out to be about 30% of ones income up to $33K/year. We might get $500 extra a month. Hopefully we’ll get that going this fall. We’ve got the paper work, we just need to fill out a few things and we’re ready to go with it.

I told Moe I wouldn’t be in for tonight because of the Lodge meeting. I’m calling Nathan to let him know I’m not feeling well and I’d like a night off. He doesn’t need to know that last part. I read a bit while waiting for my train. Two cars meant no Oiler home game. I was able to read on the way home and I got my #183 and got off at Sifton school and walked home. Anne tried calling but my cell phone had been reduced to about 2% battery so we got cut off.

Over the past several days I’ve discovered a nice series of piano tutorials. Very generous ones as well that explained Major, Minor diminished and augmented chords and show how to build them and various scales as well. There’s about 69 individual lessons.

Work last night wasn’t so bad. I ended up sharing top total with Melody who doesn’t use the disclaimer. As she left for the elevator Moe gave her a thumbs up and mentioned what a great job she did (never mind me that had the same total. I’m just glad I have a day off today even though it’s a payday. I get my cheque on Friday and October’s rent is paid, I got my insulin for the month and our transit passes. The cable/Internet bill is all paid up. I’m broke with barely $7 to my name but that’s ok. Anne mentioned that we will be getting our GST cheque this month. Probably next week. In which case I need to get some Provincial ID at the registry where we got our marriage license. With the ID I can get secured Visa.

If, Lord forbid, Canadians elect Dion, goes to show me Canadians are idiots. Fortunately, I have enough faith in my fellow Canadians to reelect (PC) Harper. Dion’s platform is the (Liberal) Green shaft. This screws all Canadians. Jack Layton wants a cap and trade and this screws Alberta.

The Green party of course, well they don’t count. I don’t know what I’m going to do if Dion is elected. Maybe Keith has some room on that island property he wants to by and we can all weather the storm on it together.

So it seems now that some scientists and AGW people are saying that methane trapped as solids on the ocean floor in the artic might be responsible for global warming. So it looks like the environmentalists are about to change their “It’s all mankind’s fault,” tune. Yet at the same time in the news there is supposed to be a large pile of floating garbage the size of the state of Texas looming about a hundred miles off the coast of Hawaii. Don’t get me wrong folks, I’m not against “saving the planet.” I just don’t think we need to save the planet at the expense of losing jobs and carbon taxes and other social engineering schemes wont save the planet either. We need to develop alternative energy sources but not at the expense of the economy and jobs. Oil isn’t going to be around forever and 80 years worth of oil before its gone is just around the corner. I believe were sitting on some technology that will allow for unlimited energy. But the LHC isn’t going to be the be end all scenario that will save us. Yeesh, they can barely get this thing to work.

Speaking about the LHC after hearing how China's space program acllerating and their plans for landing a man on the moon, I thought wouldn't that be funny if the LHC finds traversable worm holes at the same time the Chinese begin to land on the moon and out walks onto the lunar surface from a wormhole in preasure suits someone from Nasa, Canada, Europe and waves at the Chinese team as they are getting off their lunar lander. That'd be funny.

Apparently the reason for the big tie-up on the LRT yesterday causing me to be late for work was somebody walked into the oncoming train on 95th street about 20 meters before the tracks go underground. Someone committing suicide in other words. Something like this happens every couple of years. I feel sorry for the driver who most likely is in shock over something like this.

We’re enjoying a beautiful fall afternoon and an evening off. Our birds are chirping away on our balcony. All thins considered, we’re not doing to bad. I just wish there was an Oiler hockey game on but next one is tomorrow. Sigh. They’ve hired to waivers a Steve McIntyre as a bit of an “enforcer” just to let other teams know that they can’t take liberties with our skilled players.

Unfortunately because tomorrow is my pay cheque day, I wont be able to get my SFF book for Friday night. Instead I’ll go to Audrey’s on Saturday afternoon and pick up something. There have been a few Nancy Kress books I want to pick up and other books on Ebay “Forgotten Realms” etc. Kind of a long entry for me today, but you might not get anything from me until maybe Saturday or Sunday, we’ll see.

We're back at it

tonight. Lodge opens after the break with a bang. It seems we got us a bunch of new FC candidates for tonight. It's a nice evening out for me. If Neil is going I want to be able to ask him about the notation anomaly I found in some sheet music since he's our Lodge organist he'll be able to help me out.

We were in bed by about 3am listening to Coast. The good stuff was before we went to bed. I slept really good from 3:30am until about 7am to get up to do the cbi thing. I read JU for about an hour and went back to bed about 7:45am and got up at 1pm. I remember Anne heading out to get some business done. I've been reading over the last hour or so, waking up with a coffee. I'm closing in on page 700/1008 of this novel. Amazingly I'm making good time. I figure at the rate I'm reading I should have this book done by the end of September.

Before bed I got to tinker around with the Geoweather counter. It's fixed now and unlike the Weather Pixie on my website, it doesn't ask "What town is this?" The only thing not fixed is the time and I haven't found within the skins a way to modiy this properly. I think I do and I'll get to this shortly. I'd like to add this Geoweather counter to my website. It's a pretty cool looking widget.

Other then Lodge, not a lot going on tonight. At least Moe and Rob are aware I'm off for my regularly scheduled night off. I'm not like some of the AISH people that can leave at any time because like one of them said in their own words, "I don't really need to be here." Add to all of that and I got my part of our rent subsidy form filled out, I think we're going to have a nice couple of days. So tonight, I'm off to Lodge. I'm going to participate and at the festive board have a beer and enjoy the camaraderie.

Yeesh, could this be the week of decision?

About 2:30 in the afternoon I usually take a shower but the soap bar was dwindling down to nothing. I stepped out of the tub and banged my toes right into the tub. Hurt like hell. I didn’t think anything of it once the pain was gone.

I shut the place down and locked up a bit early as I wanted to get to Fs a bit early to get some JVC gummy ear buds. $12.95. Good stuff. Maybe there would be time to go to Audrey’s but I stopped in at the Redimart and got a lotto ($43 Million) ticket and a diet Coke. I borrowed the use of Fran’s pocket knife to rip apart the packaging. Insert into my Phillips Rush player and I was blown away by the sound these things produce. Very nice.

Darryl a long time employee wanted to get back to me about the vacation pay rate after 5 years it’s 6%. That’s about the only thing that keeps me at my job. So Darryl took me out back where the staff have their smoke breaks and we had a hat about this. He says he used to have his cheque accrued like me but the thing is, it gets taxed when it comes out like that in one lump sum. Or even several installments. The thing is, the Feds will tax the vacation pay one way or another. Bt he gave me a neat idea. He said he used to go to H & R block to get his taxes done and the tax consultant said that he ought to have the company take more off for taxes like an extra $10/week. This is what had caused me a lot of trouble when I was working at the A & N back in the 1980’s. Darryl had said that his $250 tax return went up to something like $400 or something like that. He says it really pays to have $10/week taken out. So I think beginning next week I’m going to put in some extra hours and get the form taken out to have an extra $10/pay cheque for income tax. That’s why I had so much trouble with A & N in the 1990’s. I would always be behind and seldom ever got caught up. It wasn’t until when Anne and I got married I began to do my taxes for the Alberta Health Care subsidy. The GST helped to bring my balance owing down from over $1,000 to where over the last couple of years we’ve been getting a refund. So now I’m getting a refund of over $300/year. An extra $10/week would also help.

Work went by really slow. I think I got $150 by break and 2 CC’s. I didn’t get a call back from Anne at break. I ended up with $395 on a $100 sale. That’s when the computers went down. Moe shut us off at 8pm with the option of working the extra or going home. Most of us went hone earlier.

I decided to go over to Audrey’s and get 3 books. My 2 “Ever Quest” books were in and I picked up the last in the Stardoc books plus a book on Grammar, which I had reserved for me for Friday.

Anyway I took the other train towards university and feeling happy listening to my Clash tunes. I had a chat with one of the transit supervisors at Clairview keeping an eye on the various “street gangs” in the area that have been causing some troubles lately. Not for me but just in general. I’ve never seen any signs of it. I caught the bus home and opened a window. I began to notice why my toes ached on my right side. Being diabetic I’m always worried about my feet. My middle toe on my right side is all bruised up now. I just hope this isn’t the pending sign of a hidden disaster.

Anyway about the toe I’m just going to keep an eye on it. As long as it doesn’t rot. I’m kind of worried about it. I don’t want to lose a toe and find it will need to be amputated. From the toe goes the foot and then the foot goes a leg and then that’s the end. What I don’t go through with.

In 34 hours 21 minutes the LHC will be activated. That should be about 11:30am Friday morning. Apparently the last countdown was for the finale cooling. If they have another countdown for something else, I’m going to lose interest in this thing.

I had a better go

of things for Wednesday. My wife had yesterday off but I went into work and met Moe and Greg outside. Greg said with a strait face that he had a talk with Lucianne last night how I was bugging him again and he couldn’t let me work this evening. But Moe grinned and they smiled joking with me. I knew he was off for the day anyway. So I got a dialer near the end of the isle and had a pretty good first half puling in $655 and 3 CC’s. The 2nd half was even better pulling in 8 CC’s for another $10 bonus and 8 CC’s for the night. That’s a record. I ended up with $1,300 just $70 shy of where I was Tuesday night. I just need 3 more CC’s to get 20 to get the $40 CC bonus but If I get say 24 CC’s that’s $48 bucks in bonus money. There’s a good chance that I’ll get 20 CC’s for $40 plus the x2 other bonuses for $10 each for $60. Actually one bonus for $15 and 1 for $10 = $24 plus $40 (min) That should be $64 on my cheque next week. So far this year, I’ve made $807/30 weeks, =an extra $27/week. Not bad. I had a decent night for a change.

I felt good going home on the train with a seat to myself and a chance to get some reading in. Judas Unchained is coming along and I’m just closing in on page 200 although I lost my place marker out of my book for the halfway part of the novel.

Ok, so Oil is just under $130, which is good. Making local news here is a story how Edmonton has acquired another 40,000 people. That’s just in the city and not the outlying areas. Right now, were just under a million people. Apparently the City used to do a Census every 3 years but the Feds distribute funds on how big a City is. The only thing is a lot of those people are migrating from other provinces and as easily as we gained the 40K population when we go into a recession, we’ll lose it.

I was watching Star Trek The Next Generation while having my lunch. The episode was Troy having a baby. “The Child” It was one of the shows more lame episodes.

Today is payday and I hope I’ll be able to get my vp on my cheque. I think to me, will be about $385. Out of that, I’m getting the external hard drive and WS, the rest I think I’ll order books or something. I’m not sure yet. But after work if my vp is on my cheque then it’s off to the bank and then to money mart over here. Well home first then to go across the street to Money mart and get a pre loaded credit card valued for $120. I’m ordering WS and a back up disk. I might even get another Gig of Ram. We’ll see.

On Coast tonight is Research scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Dr. Rudy Schild will share new discoveries that are providing hard evidence to explain phenomena like telepathy, remote viewing, ghosts, and past lives. First Hour: Aviation safety expert Christopher Yates comments on recent airline incidents. Tonight’s show is a lot better discussing Nazi’s and the Roswell rock. Good stuff.

So I think I’m going to get the PSR-S500 Yamaha keyboard. I meant to call Giovanni music to see if they had any there but there’s another music book I want to get a hold of there and see if they have the S900. I’d love that or the S900 and the Yamaha Studio upright acoustic piano. This is a beautiful instrument but costs something like 6 grand. That and the PSR S 900 would cost me about $7,800. If I sell a book, or win the lottery, yeah sure.

More of the same

My bsl reading the last couple of days have been quite high. Time to start taking the stairs more whenever I can. Exercise helps to lower it down. Maybe taking my insulin to early might have something to do with it. I’ll check it when I get into the office. I feel like going out for a walk right now but Anne’s up in 20 minutes.

We went to bed at our usual time Anne half an hour before me and I was in at 4am. I’m kind of curious as to where Rob’s going with this credit card sales thing by “Friday?” I’ve got 10/20. He said “I better see more then 9 by the end of the week.” The only thing he can do is remove me off taps and put me on semies. Last night Greg had “somewhat confirmed” that it’s against the Law to reduce my hourly rate. So I have with me the phone number for the Alberta Employment Standards and I’ll be contacting someone in that office here in Edmonton about of an employer can at anytime reduce an employee’s hourly rate of pay? If the answer is no, as I think it is, then I know Rob can’t do anything there. All he can do is remove me from taps. Oh and last night I got a $10 bonus for 5 credit cards. That’s the only incentive for me to get CC’s is bonus money. The things I don’t go through with.

This morning however I managed about half an hour of piano practice. I’m doing half an hour each day. A little bit at a time.

I didn’t win on my 6/49 last night. Two winners each won $7,379,200.00 out of $15 million. Two winners won $204,238.00 (I’d settle for that.) 5 numbers + the bonus number and 223 winners got 5 numbers right for $1,513.10. Most likely these winners have been playing for years.

After my piano practice I was able to read a bit more. Before bed and the cbi thing. When I got up at noon after a good 8 hours of sleep I ended up completing my reading page quota of 15 pages/day. That doesn’t mean I stop there. I’ll read maybe 3 more pages on the train going in and another 3 more pages on the train coming back and maybe another 4 before the news. So that’s between 15-25 pages/day.

Anyway, today is payday. That’s the only thing I care about over the next 5 hours. Well reading my book going in and coming back. COH: $14.34 plus I get $10 for an allowance. With any luck at all, I’ll be able to get 2 of the x-Wing Star wars books this weekend. I’ll be going into work tonight focused on my work for CC’s and the job. For the 5 hours I’m away from home, the only things that give me any pleasure is reading going into work, waiting for Anne to call me at break and reading on the train going home.

Going into work

was good even though there was a bit of a delay. Weather wise out there it was +32C. Very warm. I got in and found my chair and began looking for bottles/cans. I had a good evening I think about $350 by break and a couple of CC’s. Anne had given me my bank card to save her a trip to the bank. She called at break. I called my book ordering guy at Audrey’s to see if he could order some of the “Dragonlance” and early “Stargate” books. I’d call back in an hour. I got 4 credit card sales and $615. I had a pretty good evening although Audrey’s had bad news for me. The Dragonlance and Stargate books are out of print. I could look for them on EBay but paperback books have spine damage and are not always in the best of condition. I left out of there at 9pm in the very warm humid air. I walked up half a block finding a place to sit down and tie my shoe at the Sun life building. Ah the bus stop. People waiting. Bus coming in. I took that up the block to the bank and did my banking without a hook. Easy. No trouble. I bought a diet Coke for on the way home next door and a ten minute wait for the Clairview train home.

The Eskimo game was still underway seeing all the fans in the stands underneath the lights. Even my bus was there waiting. It was a beautiful night. I got in to try and catch the Eskimo football game on the radio. Late in the 3rd quarter 22 something to 14 favoring the Esks. Good stuff. Anne came in and got my bank card and over to Superstore. Anne made me a simple lunch. Some stuffed finger food or whatever they were and Mexie fries and her fried tortia chip thingies and a bit of pasta.

I watched the evening Global News. Wow, Oil at $145/barrel. That’s another record breaking high for Oil. This time last year I think it was pushing $72/barrel.

Current temperature is +24C and it’s going to be a warm one overnight. Fortunately we have our air conditioner on cooling down the bedroom. Add the fan and so it’s going to be comfortable sleeping.

I’m kind of disappointed that I can’t get the early “Dragonlance” books brand new. I don’t want to get them second hand. There are some pretty god Ebay items and some of those book are said to be in good condition with very little if any spine increases. One Ebay seller has the nerve to sell the first 6 Dragonlance books and the condition of these items are so poor they look like they could fall apart just in the handling. Speaking of reading, I’ve got another 200 pages in “Pandora’s Star” and I’m done. I need to get into some good old Fantasy next.

Anne gave me my $20 allowance and this weekend I’m definitely going to get my resume up for Pizza. Some of those Ebay books look pretty good.
Well, it’s another Friday and after work I’m heading over to Audrey’s to pick up one of the “Vanguard” Star Trek books and catch Smackdown and ECW.

I haven’t forgotten about my own novel “Fiber.” it’s in storage mode right now. Hopefully I’ll get to it this fall. It needs work. Entry
