This diary used to be written in hard copy. Ink on paper. I used to write in it everyday and it would be like a sounding board. In a way.
When I went from paper to MS Word in August of 2005. I decided to type instead of write by hand because it got to the point I couldn’t read my own handwriting. Besides I can add headers and footers and post photos to my blog in various ways. I didn’t get the digital camera until 2006 and that was kind of neat to put photos on my blog. Would I go back to paper and pen again? I doubt it. This is much better.
Last night I was playing Oblivion for a few hours. We had our wine. Anne was stressed out from her job. But we went to bed about 4am after I took my insulin and I slept ok for 8 hours. I got up to play Oblivion again and completed the first quest and discovered a few tricks about strategic movement around the world map. My character is not strong enough to complete the 2nd quest. This took me up until about 2:30pm and my wife got up to go over to the truck for a few things. it’s a discount food truck. There’s several of them scattered all over the city.
As for now, I’m having my first coffee. It’s -12/-20C out there. It’s supposed to warm up by this time next week. We should be around -4C.
My blood sugar level’s (bsl) were fairly high last night, registering 10.1. Right now it’s sitting at 9.3. The trouble is I’m not getting any exercise and that‘s going to be a huge problem for me down the road as a diabetic. A few years ago when Pat worked here he had bought a pedometer. Even though with the weather out there as it is I wouldn’t recommend anyone walking around for long distances on icy sidewalks. Treadmills are too expensive. I used to walk in the hallways to lower my bsl and I might do this yet in an hour or so. The thing is this doesn’t tell me how much distance I’ve traveled. A pedometer (thanks to Thomas Jefferson) measures each step and translates that into feet, yards, miles. I don’t need to do this all in one go but I’m going to look into getting a pedometer. I’m looking at getting a cardio health kit from London drugs. I decided that an early goal should be 1 mile/day. Some recommend 10K steps/day, which equals to about 5 miles. But what about the weather? The icy sidewalks? For starters, I can walk inside the apartment building back and fourth in the hallway. I just went and walked from one end of the hallway to the other and its 77 steps long, approximately. It’s going to take about 30 minutes from that little walk to lower my bsl. It seems that there are 2,000 steps in 1 mile. To get a mile’s worth of walking in the hallway I’d need to walk back and fourth for about 13 times. That’s about 1 mile.
I’m going to try this and see how long it takes me to walk a mile here in the hallway. It’s 3:30pm now. It’s now 3:45pm and I walked 5 times or about 770 steps. There’s no way to tell for sure unless I go get a pedometer and I believe I can get one at the pharmacy I pass by every day on the way to work. But what interrupted me was my crazy wife coming home from her shopping. Still I feel pretty good about that and I worked up a bit of a sweat as well and I feel pretty good about myself. I’m going to do the rest later. I don’t really need the pedometer in this case but I’m not always going to do my walking inside. That’s why I need one. And from now on I’m going to take the stairs up from Corona. But I’ll be looking into that pedometer when I go back to work Tuesday. My bsl hadn’t dropped much 9.1 down from 9.3 but it’s a start.
Anne’s making our brunch and an hour after that, I’m going to do the other half of the mile Five times.
My wife had retrieved my mail and my new bank card came in. It has chip enabled technology. I don’t think the last card I had was chip enabled. ID theft is a big deal these days and yet on the job I get anywhere from 10-20 CC sales/week. And I’m just part time. Out of 14-17 tap stations, that’s pretty good.
About time. Obama pushed his stimulus $787B package through at last. The military was complaining that there was nothing in it for them but this wasn’t a budget bill. Meanwhile Ed Stelmach has been holding press conferences about what we’re doing here in Alberta to give our oil a better image. This has been in the works for months now but good timing because Obama’s trip to Canada begins next week. Hurry up Ed, brush the dirt under the rug, company’s coming. Kind of reminds me of Catherine 2nd’s visit into the country side of Russia in the 1930’s. One good thing about Obama’s energy bill I like is the energy efficiency, up to 50B. Of course the Republicans are critical of the bill. No kidding.
After brunch I’m going to spend some time with “Logos run.” I put a little bit of a dent in this last night. Hopefully I can get past the books half way point.
And finally, I didn’t win the big $25M 6/49 draw last night. Actually, nobody did. However I got 1 number out of 6! They usually carry this over and often double it. It could go as high as $50M but it’s fun to play. I usually win about $10 bucks every now and then.
Anyway, bloggers that’s all for now.

Sunday was spent
lounging around doing a lot of piano theory, reading and JFK assassination research. You can read my musings over there on the JFK Lancer board. I don’t take any official version on the case. I've got a post there called "Another rifle."
Today I left out of here at my usual time. I got to my dialer and Cathy mentioned how one of us tap shooters is making $14/hr. She's been here for about a year now, the woman Cathy is talking about. I wont mention her name but she flirts with management. She’s nice enough and all but guess how she got $14/hr by giving the boss head. Among other things. She even said as much to me. “I just suck (you know what) and I get what I want,” and she laughed about it. I didn’t think too much of it at the time some months back when she said this out of the blue. Now after hearing she makes $14/hr this really set me for a spin. And I went out and cut the legs out from underneath me getting that $50? But oh know I had to say the right thing and short change myself $50.
And it took management at XL 5 years to get me to do taps and 8 years to get to $10/hr. So this really made me upset. From now on when it comes to work, no more “Mr. nice guy.” I’m going to take what I can get. I ended up with a slow night and but got a couple of CC’s and just under $400 by break. I got 7 CC’s and a $720 total at the end of the shift, and a $25 bonus and I became back to my old self with MS-ahem. She makes $14 at this job and $21 on her day job and has the gall to ask me for change. My wife called saying that she came back from the bank and cashed my GST cheque.
After work all I wanted to do was to get to the LRT train, read on the way home and watch my Monday night Raw. The show was really good this evening.
I haven’t been watching much of any local/national news lately. The world financial markets are sliding and people are saying that this recent economic turndown has similar hallmarks to the crash of 1929. There’s a lot of emotion out there but I don’t think a $700B bailout package is the answer. I’m not a stock guy even though I wouldn’t mind getting into the stock market. I just don’t have $10K to invest.
Other news politically speaking here in Canada, all the main political parties here are still attacking Harper. If the election were to be called today Harper would have another minority Government. If you care about the economy, don't vote Dion or Layton. Lots of people are saying we need change, well thing is change costs money. The Liberals are in panic mode over the economy and all the Greens and NDP want to do is tax everyone. Yeesh. Now I’m not necessarily a Progressive Conservative kind of guy. I’m more of a center Libertarian then anything. I’d vote Jack Layton but he’s in favour of a cap n trade system on the oil industry and this will only slow down our economy here in Alberta. I hate to admit it but the only way for Canada to go is for Harper.
I’m really enjoying this “Icewind Dale trilogy.” R.A. Salvatore’s writing is awesome but maybe its to early to tell in the book but I get the feeling that the characters have it too easy in the fight scenes. The plot is first rate although and the writing is tight and crisp. I wont give away too many details. I should be at page 300/1040 by Friday.
I’m going to go to Pure Speculation on Saturday even i come in the middle of a panel. I won't go for both days. It's only $10 bucks.

At least the weather is nice
Yesterday was totally laid back. I did almost nothing but a bit of computer, reading and a lot of TV. Anne made me a nice breakfast even though it was at 5pm. She went out to get Chinese food. That’s ok, as it gave me more time on the computer.
I was looking for a Canadian distributor for the Nord C1 combo organ. it’s a Hammond B3 clone and from what I was listening to on YouTube, it sounds identical in every way to the original B3 without the drawbars. To top it off I’d like a Nord Wave synth and behind me a Roland Hpi-7 arranger piano and I’d be in business. But we’re talking about 6k just for the Hp alone. Altogether about 12k. I like everything about the C1, its sound retro feel.
Still working through Icewind Dale and I’m having fun with the story. Its taking on some interesting turns. So far I’d say this trilogy is well worth reading but I’m a long way from writing a review to say the least.
Yesterday I ended up watching a highlight hour long show of the past weeks highlights of Raw/Smackdown/ECW. I used to have something like this when I couldn’t get cable to watch Raw back in 1993. I think the show was called (today) WWE “Extreme.” Now I can’t always sit there and watch 2 hours of Raw and Smackdown every week. 4 hours is just to much especially when the Oiler’s are about to kick off their regular season. A one hour package deal while having my brunch fits in really good.
By now we’ve all heard the $700B wall street bailout didn’t go through. And this reflected badly in the markets today. Oil took a $7 hit and things were down across the board. I believe though that oil will move up towards the $100 mark by the end of the week. As far as “Decision 2008” goes Dion is really low in the polls. He says Canadians will change their minds when the first English language debate is under way. I think this is Thursday. Dion could be the most eloquent and likable guy in the world but he’s selling his carbon tax and nobody in their right mind wants that.
Today, I’m back on the job thing putting my 4 hours in. So far there hasn’t been a big announcement about the DNC list and that takes into effect Tuesday. All day Saturday I was using the disclaimer and it didn’t affect my sales at all.

Almost the end of September
Thursday night Anne was applying some color dye to grey out her hair and suggested what’s left over would remove the grey in my hair as well. She’s been hinting at this for awhile now, So I let her work the color in my hair and half an hour later, it really looks good except the grey in my mustache gives my age away. Other then me getting a haircut it looks pretty good. If my camera was working properly I’d do a before and after type thing.
Last night after I shut the place down I was out there by just after 4pm catching my bus. It was a beautiful autumn day out there. I barely followed the train operator up the elevator as the Clairview escalator is broken again. Well the driver took the stairs I took the elevator. I know sooner sat down and the train was underway. Clairview station’s escalator is always either under maintenance or shut down for some reason. I got a seat on the train cracked open my book and began to read Icewind Dale “The Crystal shard.” I read all the way through to the end of the line and back again to Corona. I found my dialer and Rob was circulating around but in a pretty good mood even joking around with me. Three of the regional managers were there coveting around the floor managers monitors with Moe. I recognized the Vancouver guy Steve but I couldn’t tell who the bald guy was or the other guy. As far as I know they stayed until about 6pm. There was no announcement or anything regarding October 1st. Moe again stressed a $200 line hour. Yeah right, on this? I was doing really well surprisingly at $400 by break and 1 CC and at line hour. Apparently the managers are supposed to be in for today (Saturday). Anne called a couple of times but the first time I couldn’t talk to her. The 2nd time I could about 8pm. I was sitting with Lev in the back there at JT’s dialer. Which is why I did so well.
After work it was over to Audrey’s and picked up “The Soul Drinker’s” omnibus Warhammer 40K. There’s also an Everquest novel in there for me as well. I could have picked that up but it would have left me too short. I paid US pricing for the book and went to catch the train home and had a pretty good rest of the evening “watching” Smackdown. I say “watching” because I was tired and dozed off there for a bit on the couch.
Anne came home about 11:30pm and ordered Pizza for us, which was better then the last time. I watched ECW and went to bed. I slept odd hours in the night and my alarm didn’t go off this morning, which is why I’m late.
I wanted to go into the Casino on m way home to take a look around but I didn’t have any money with me. Weather wise it was really nice and is not to bad out there holding at +12C. I’m not doing to bad right now as tired as I am.Some 12 hours later I walked down to the other bus shelter this morning just West of me to avoid the dumb-ass at my regular Saturday stop. I had a nice wait and a reading time-train ride into the office. I got my end dialer and Bud was saying how there’s about 10 of the big bosses in there for their big meeting from other offices. I was onto my disclaimer all morning and surprisingly had another great start pulling in $440 by break and 2 CC’s. One of the big bosses shook hands with me when I introduced myself as he was coming around looking at totals. I think he said his name was Marty or something. Rob was in a good mood as well. There were so much Xl brass, I felt I was in the army at an officers meeting. Anne called me at home before she left and just before we got out of the office. I hope she has a good day as well. Again for the 2nd time I had top total. I hope the big guys there noticed. I also had 3 CC’s for the end of the day.
All in all I had a pretty good week what with taking Monday off and all.
I went to bed about 4:30pm for a nap. I didn’t fare to well, resting more then napping. I think I got an hours snooze so after a frozen entrĂ©e and desert thingy later I feel pretty good and enjoying my 2nd coffee of the day.
I like what liberal Dion is saying. Or rather not saying. He’s saying that Harper is doing absolutely nothing for the economy in light of what’s going down in the US with the $700 bail out. The thing is even though our economy isn’t affected that much if the US takes a nose dive and goes into a recession, we can more or less weather the storm. The last thing any of the 3 main political leaders want to see happen is a slow down in the economy. According to Harper our economy is looking really good, posting a $1.5B surplus for July. Also, in the works the Feds are making moves to supply bitumen to some countries not affected by GHG emissions. This could be worth billions. He’s talking about selling oil to China, which is good. Meanwhile, Dion wants a carbon tax which really will translate into a recession felt nowhere more so then here in Alberta. He says his Green shaft plan will generate Billions into the economy. Everyone except Alberta that is. Yet Dion needs a Majority Government in order to do this. A new poll out by the Toronto Star puts Harper at 40% Dion and Layton at 21%. So if an election were to be held tomorrow 40 % of all Canadians would vote Harper into a majority Government. However there are still 17 days left and anything can happen. Harper is right for Canada and thank God most Canadians feel the same way. At a PC convention here in Edmonton the other day, there was good ol Mike Hudema protesting outside with his “stop Alberta Tar sands.” What an idiot.
That’s about it for me for today. Anne called me at about 8pm. She’s off work at 11pm. That’s 9 hours for her. She says she’s feeling a bit tired. She was a bit disappointed from hr pay cheque the other day but read her pay stub statement to find they took $50 off for an elevator pass key to get into the building after hours but she’ll get that back when and if she leaves Pizza.
